Microphone very quiet on Teams

Hello, 

My in built microphone on my laptop works well with other  and is good on the voice recorder but I cannot take part in audio conversations on Teams because others in the conversation cannot hear me. I have tried settings on Teams and on my laptop control panel but haven't been able to fix the problem. Can anyone help?

    Hi All,

    I had this same problem and found a solution that works for me using windows 10 + teams.  In my case my microphone worked before, but was picking up very quietly in teams and fine in other applications. Please try this:

    1. Next to the start menu search box, search for "sound" >> Open "Sound Settings"
    2. Select sound from the left menu bar
    3. Scroll down to related settings and select "Sound control panel"
    4. Select "Recording" tab
    5. Click the device for your microphone, e.g. "microphone array"
    6. Click properties
    7. Select the "levels" tab
    8. Slide "Microphone boost" up to +20dB
    9. Hit ok and then try testing your microphone again.

    I just stumbled into this looking for the microphone settings so if it doesn't work try the other sliders in the levels tab as well.

    From what I've experienced, it looks like teams is regulating the recording volume. Almost like a noise suppression function that is set way to sensitive. When making a test call everything works fine, only when in an actual meeting the problem occurs.

    Both MS Teams and Skype have precisely the same problem - they're trying to "automatically adjust the microphone settings". And this causes the mic in volume gain to be practically minimal => extremely low volume, if not zero at all, while using your MIC device.

    In Skype, you can disable this through the respective setting in "Audio & video" set to Off.

    And you can then manually set the gain from 0 to 10.

    However, MS Teams gives no such capability. And as the "automatic" setting is on while MS Teams calls are running, you cannot override the MIC gain even through Control Panel > Manage Audio devices > select your MIC and set the "Level" high enough (e.g. 100)

    @Microsoft - please enable this capability ASAP in MS Teams.

    All other apps in the same laptop (incl. Gotomeeting) work fine - i.e. they allow you to set the MIC gain.

    Yup agree, after testing setting gain levels many, many times I came to the same conclusion, the levels I select are ignored/adjusted without my intervention. My other apps work fine with all my mics...

    I noticed some of the people who replied have a Dell Laptop. I've seen this issue on a Dell Latitude 3410 and it seems to be a common issue for Latitude 3410 and 3510. Dell release a new Audio driver today, Oct. 29. I didn't get a chance to try it, but in case it can help anyone who is following this thread, check for driver update, hopefully the new one fixes this issue.
