Hello,

My in built microphone on my laptop works well with other  and is good on the voice recorder but I cannot take part in audio conversations on Teams because others in the conversation cannot hear me. I have tried settings on Teams and on my laptop control panel but haven't been able to fix the problem. Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem. The sound with other apps are fine. It's only Teams. I tried editing the device settings in Teams and it helps a little bit, but it's still quiet.

This is my second time posting in this thread. I just was on a Teams call with approximately 20 people, and background Noise Suppression set to "off". Again, everyone on the call could not hear me (sounded like I was yelling from the bottom of a well). I actually am said to have a fairly loud voice in person. I have run through EVERY setting with IT with this. This seriously disrupts my job. MICROSOFT PLEASE HELP.

    SOLUTION BELOW!

Mic volume was ok for me previously but went very quiet recently, possibly with a Teams update (now that it updates silently from time to time). I am currently using version 1.4.00.19572 (64-bit). I am using Windows 10 on a Lenovo Yoga C740 laptop/tablet using the built-in microphone array, which uses Realtek Audio drivers.

    Observation:

    • Good volume in Voice Recorder app
    • Very low volume in Teams desktop app
    • Good volume in Teams web app (reported by colleagues, there's no "test call" option in Teams web app to test for yourself)
    • Very little movement in the mic volume meter in Windows, Settings, Sound, Input, "Test your microphone", even when speaking loudly or close to the microphone

    Things that DIDN'T work:

    • Changing to a headset plugged into the 3.5mm socket. Same low mic volume in Teams, good in voice recorder
    • Updating the Realtek Audio driver (The update driver wizard said the best version was already installed but also showed that there was a version with a higher number available so I chose that)
    • Updating the Realtek Audio Console app
    • Yelling into the microphone. People reported that volume was somewhat better but preferred not to see up my nose with my face so close to the camera

    SOLUTION

Two things solved it for me:

    1. Changing the microphone volume setting. There are multiple device and audio settings which made this confusing (various sound, audio and volume mixer options in Windows plus the Realtek Audio Console settings). For me I adjusted in Windows, Settings, Sound, Input, Device Properties and changed from the default of about 40% to 100%. This made the mic volume meter show the volume level had improved.
    2. In the Teams desktop app go to Settings (... on the toolbar next to your profile picture), Devices, and turn off Automatically adjust mic sensitivity.

After some test calls I determined that leaving the Noise suppression on Auto was best. Other people have advised to set it to Off but that didn't improve the microphone volume and only added in a hiss/background noise. For you it might work better when set to Off.

Tried all of this, and still no luck. I am on yet another teams call with 10 other people and the response was "it sounds like you are talking from the bottom of a tunnel".

-Input volumes... all 100 % (including Teams app).

-Teams Settings: Automatically Adjust Mic Sensitivity*: OFF (*this appears to be a brand new setting, BUT IT DOES NOTHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM)

    -Teams Settings: Noise Suppression: OFF

Again at my wit's end. Have been with IT, on multiple forums, re-installed Teams multiple times.

Teams is, at its core, a phone call system.

    No one can hear me.

And to clarify... this is only on MS Teams. Other programs on the laptop (Zoom, etc.) sound works perfectly fine.

    This is crazy.
