Export messages from Teams Chat?

I agree to all above. This is terrible.

I am in engineering in a large global company. People start using chats more and more (as email get ignored more and more...).

Discussing engineering topics does often involve graphs, sketches, pictures, other documents. What may have started as a harmless question might quickly spiral into a major issue.

I need a way to export and store selected chat. Full chat, in readable form and with all pictures in correct order and all documents used in that chat embedded in that export.

I tried the various exports methods discussed here and non work. Neither Word, Powerpoint or Excel works. Text formatting is so bad it is hardly readable at all. Pictures gets replace by hundreds of line of random emojis,.... Opening teams in Chrome and print PDF does not work as it truncates each chat bubble to the first two line or so, so your are missing out anything more complicated then "hello". Pictures are not printed at all. Same result for MS-Edge.

Microssoft, This is good enough for teenagers to discuss where to hang out. To be forced to use this in a professional environment has me grinding my teeth. You really need to come up with an improvement.

I just want to register my extreme dissatisfaction with Microsoft Teams and the fact that the user is not permitted to do the simple and frequently needed step of saving a chat.  How could this have been overlooked? Or was it looked at and Microsoft decided against including the feature?  Either way it is a major mistake and renders Teams a poor choice--for me at least--as my primary corporate communication tool.  I won't bother detailing the scenarios that arise in my job which necessitate saving the content of Teams chats, since any product designer or developer could easily think of many.  Oh but, but, but you say, you might be able to go to the Export page, or load an extension that will let you take a long screenshot (!), or export to Outlook--none of those options is possible for me for one reason or another, and my main point is that workarounds just to save some content should not be required.  Really, going to some Microsoft page just to save/export content in the app I'm using?  Who decided this was a good idea?  

Or how about the similarly frustrating and inexplicable limitation that the user can only scroll through small portions of a Teams chat at a time, with the content constantly needing to load.  We are not talking about a protein-folding or nuclear explosion simulation here, Microsoft! I understand the concept of not loading all content into memory at once, but are you really telling me you can't load and keep in memory more than a couple of hundred KB of text at a time?  Other applications that work with large files have solved this problem much better to the point where there is no loading delay while scrolling, the user can navigate precisely up or down in the content, and the user can select all the content in a file with a click or a keystroke.  But not with Teams.  This performance is pathetic.  It makes it horribly difficult and annoying to scroll through conversations and find your place and it makes copying content a nightmare.  

I really am astonished at how poorly Microsoft Teams performs in these simple tasks which were never problems before:  that's right, instead of solving existing problems, Teams is creating new ones.  How many years of development were spent on this application without mastering very basic "quality of life" type issues?  Please do not respond to me with any weak workarounds.  Just tell the project manager to remove these tedious and annoying limitations in a future version.

The worst thing about this is that if I have to scroll through a conversation that has been ongoing for months, Teams is so slow that it takes FOREVER to scroll through even the last week, let alone the whole thing.  The search feature is equally worthless.  It seems the only solution to extract needed data is to export it as plain text, but the feature doesn't exist as far as I can tell.  The community as a whole really needs MSFT to respond to the deficiency.

As per my knowledge, it's not feasible to export the conversations in Teams directly. As a workaround we can copy the entire conversations, then paste them to Word, OneNote, or other apps. Also for the single chat, we can share it to Outlook via click Share to Outlook option after you click more options of that specific chat. Or other workaround is that capture the screenshots of those conversations, then save it as .PNG, .JPG or other type file.

Actually, for your first and second query, the admin have the permission to run the content search from admin center, there admin may be abled to export the needed information. So if you are not the global admin in your organization, please do involve your admin here to go ahead. For the admin reference: Conduct an eDiscovery investigation of content in Microsoft Teams.

I absolutely agree that MS should be fixing this issue, and if this is not a priority then they do not care about their customers. I have had this version of teams for 2 years and everyone makes the same complaints. No response.

I have never been forced to utilize such an useless tool in my many years in the business world. I have strongly requested that my management provide another tool for IM as this lacks features.
