Black screen camera on Microsoft Teams desktop app

Today I had a meeting where I needed my camera turned on but it wasn't working. I checked the preview of the camera and it shows only black screen.

I've tried anything I could to resolve the problem ( check for privacy settings, update camera drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled the camera device , uninstalled and reinstalled teams, reboot the laptop multiple times ). The camera works on any other app except MT desktop app. It also doesn't let me do the screen share thing.

Any help? I really need it solved so I can be able to take my exams.

I have been researching this issue for 2 days to no avail but your suggestion has worked thank you :)

Only thing I would add that was different for me was after the driver installed, it showed in Device Manager under camera. I then opened Teams and had black camera again, switched back to device manager and it had changed back to imaging device. Then I did the step of driver roll back which fixed the issue.

Hello everyone! This happened to me too and I tried everything from re-installing the system, and I finally figured this out. You have to check for the settings on your desktop/operating system and NOT on Microsoft Teams itself.

    For Mac users:

    > click on the 'Apple symbol' on the top left hand corner

    > select 'System Preferences'

    > select 'Security & Privacy'

    > click on the 'Camera symbol'

    > ensure that the box for 'Microsoft Teams' is selected/ticked

Viola! After restarting the Microsoft Teams software, your camera should no longer appear as a black screen.

    This workaround only works temporarily...

Unfortunatley, it is not only Teams.

Also Skype, in its desktop version, presents exactly the same issue. Black video when camera is enabled, even if the green light near the camera is on.

It is most problably a OS issue, related to some recent Windows 10 update (before the last updates, Facetime HD Camera was working properly!).

Yes! So simple, and now it works (even on a Mac). For anyone else, try going to your computer camera settings and allow camera to access Teams. Thanks!
