Hi,

For users using the new Outlook for Windows desktop client (not the Classic desktop client), they cannot drag and drop emails from Outlook to SharePoint to save them. Is this a known issue?

If so, is there a plan to resolve this issue?

Users using the Outlook Classic desktop client can save emails to SharePoint by dragging and dropping.

Thank you for your assistance,

Hi Nishanth Chakkere Ramesh.

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum.

This is a known limitation in the New Outlook for Windows desktop client. Currently, users cannot drag and drop emails or attachments directly into SharePoint from the New Outlook, whereas this functionality does work in the Classic Outlook client.

You can try these workarounds to achieve your goal:

  1. Switch to Classic Outlook when needing drag‑and‑drop functionality.
  2. Alternative save workflow in New Outlook:
    • Open the email, click the "ellipses (⋯)" > Save. This saves an .eml file to Downloads.
    • Drag that saved file into your SharePoint folder via browser.
  3. Desktop sync workaround:
    • Drag the email or attachment to your local desktop or File Explorer
    • From there, upload it to SharePoint or Teams.
  4. Sync your SharePoint library to File Explorer using OneDrive sync. Then you can drag files directly from Outlook into synced SharePoint folders.

If you need any further assistance or have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I'm here to help.

Thank you again for your patience and for choosing Microsoft Q&A forum.

Not really helpful answer, we know it doesn't work, we know the workaround, we are asking if/when you're going to have this basic feature in the new outlook.
