Step 1: Check Camera Functionality
Open the Camera app from the Start menu.
Verify that the front-facing camera is working.
If the camera doesn’t activate, it may be disabled or have a driver issue.
Step 2: Install Windows Updates
Go to Settings > Windows Update.
Click Check for updates and install all available updates.
Restart your device.
This ensures your system has the latest firmware and drivers from Microsoft1.
Step 3: Update Camera and Biometric Drivers
Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
Right-click your camera (e.g., Surface Camera Front) > Update driver > Search automatically.
Expand Biometric Devices.
Right-click any listed biometric device > Update driver.
Restart your Surface Studio.
Step 4: Reinstall Windows Hello Face Feature
Go to Settings > Apps > Optional Features.
Search for Windows Hello Face.
If it’s missing, click Add a feature, search for it, and install.
Restart your device after installation.
This step ensures the facial recognition component is properly installed 2.
Step 5: Set Up or Reset Windows Hello
Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
Under Facial Recognition (Windows Hello):
If it says “Unavailable,” click Remove (if available).
Then click Set up to reconfigure facial recognition.
Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your face.
Step 6: Improve Recognition (Optional)
If setup works but recognition fails:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Facial Recognition.
Click Improve recognition.
Scan your face in different lighting or with/without glasses.
Step 7: Run Windows Troubleshooter
Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
Run the Camera and Hardware and Devices troubleshooters.
Step 8: Use Surface App to Check Device Health
Download the Surface app from the Microsoft Store.
Open the app and go to Help & support.
Click Check for updates to ensure all firmware is current 1.
