Windows 11 Folder custom Icon Issue

Original post was about "customize Choose a file to show on this folder icon . . . ."

Not "Change Icon", which is the bottom CUSTOMIZE tab choice - Change Icon WILL USE ' .ddl ' (or .exe and other files - choose any exe file and you will probably find at least 1 icon)

This posting is about choosing a file (an image file) to "show on this folder icon" (the common, little manila folder that all windows folders default to) i believe.

Hey Sorry Bud. But I don't know what you are talking about. I didn't write that. Please see my other posts and ALL sat what you are saying, eg. Microsoft left in the option to Customize a folder to, "Choose a file TO SHOW ON this folder Icon."

I want to show a FULL picture on some of my folder icons. NOT piss with .DLL's.

I don't even know the post you are referring to. If I did, and it did NOT say something similar to the above, I would be changing it to say so. And they are ".DLL" (deposit and leave loaded); not dll. THAT is another indication I didn't write what you are referring to.

I'll look back through the 12 threads to see where you got that BS, "But when I click on the "Change icon" box, I am not given any other choice than dll files..."

Sorry, but this doesn't work. Did you ever have Windows 10, 7 or XP?

Apparently not. In those Windows Operating Systems, when you clicked "Customize/Choose a file to show on this folder icon," you could click a picture, in that folder and it would be FULLY displayed on the folder. Much like what I have attached. Unfortunately, my Windows 10 system isn't up now, so I cannot give an exact representation, but that is close. (Scott, by the way, you will find on an earlier page in this string.)

See the pictures ON the folders?? Hello? That was the way it was!! That is what we want! Perhaps not 4 pictures, but 1 is good for me.

Thanks however, it's like Microsoft is listening, but met us halfway. Yes, we customize to show a file on the folder icon but you can only see half. Which is still not enough. Well, not sure for everyone else but my issue is that I have thousands of files organized appropriately but I can't memorize all the names. My only way of navigating to search certain files is by looking at a picture of a file on the folder. Without it I'm lost. I'm having to go back to an older PC take a screen shot of the file list (by med cion view) and save it in grouped folders.

It can be fixed by replacing the half-cover folder mask icon with a transparent icon, but that change has to be made to a system file. The steps and icon file are posted here:

That's the best I can offer for now. Eventually, I hope to streamline those steps to a single clickable patch program.

It would be much better if Microsoft gave users the options to have full size folder thumbnails. It's silly that we have to keep patching out their questionable design choices.
