Windows 11 Folder custom Icon Issue

You may have misunderstood my post. I go to Properties/Customize of a folder icon and choose a picture in the folder. The image I posted here was re-created just to get a point across that I wasn't looking for a preview in the folder. I want an image ON the folder.

So I go here . . .

Click "Choose file"

Go here . . .

Select a picture file and the result is this . . .

I over-layed the folder image with a picture, to give an idea of what my result would be. No I let Windows do it. I don't do it for all my folders. Why should I when there is already a way to have it done (if it'd only work!).

By the way, I liked XP, but Windows 7 was just as good. Went from 7 to 10; regret 11, just because of the above.

I would have to create custom Icons for literally thousands of folders. I've known about this feature for a while, but it's more labor intensive than just labeling a picture folder.jpg. This method has worked for artists, photographers, videographers, musicians and collectors going all the way back to XP. To suddenly take away this compatibility and instruct users to go through (Not exaggerating) hundreds or even thousands of hours of labor to update archives is beyond irresponsible. If I make an Icon of a picture, there is nothing besides my knowledge to identify it as a folder. While I can make an Icon of a folder with the proper picture on it, the time it would take for ONE Icon would be considerable. All of this, because somebody in an office somewhere who either doesn't use this feature, or doesn't use it extensively decided to take it away, disregarding the (probably) millions who do.

BTW - Although it is very outdated, I too loved XP.

William, I chose a picture for a folder on my network drive and it never displayed. Again... I would have to go through thousands of folders to have them display properly, even if this (Good information, thanks) had worked. Your way to display a picture on a folder would have saved me a lot of time rather than creating individual Icons. Also tried on local drive. Still no picture. did this work for you?

Yes, but I like to complain. Especially, if there is a program error in the OS.

Yeah, I'm in the wrong thread. I already admitted that, but the problem still exists. Take my browser away! Cancel me! The OS has a bug. Microsoft needs to fix it.

'Not sure what you're alluding to here, Scott. I mean "Folder.jpg" is unknown to me. When I customize a Folder Icon, I put a picture file in the folder and select it to be on the Folder. Pure, plain and simple. Yet, it's gone from Windows 11. I apologize the resulting folder is too small for you to see, and "another step down." It is recreated, since I no longer have Windows 10 and Windows 11 won't produce it. Perhaps you need a better video card?

Sanjay . . . That is not the issue. The issue is in Folder Properties/Customize, "Choose a File to Show on this Folder Icon." This following gives an approximate representation . . . This IS NOT ABOUT previews, Icon color or anything else. Thank you. (Please see the above display from Windows XP! See THAT is the way it's done!! I.E. "Choose a file to show on this folder icon." (Dang! Those were the good ole days!)
