After updating to windows 11, the option to customize "Choose a file to show on this folder icon" does not change the folder's display image even after applying, I have tried the solutions displayed here " https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/all/folder-icon-thumbnails-broken-windows-11-pro/0e60c9ee-e5f0-4e6d-80c9-42cf2f89752e " but it did not solve the issue, I also do not have the option to revert to windows 10 where this problem never occurred

21H2 doesn't have that capability. You'll need to upgrade to 22H2 for the folder thumbs to work.

Thank you for your reply. I cleared the Thumbnail Cache, and clicked "Restore Default" in the folder properties (apply to subfolders) with a file called Folder.jpg in every folder (I've been building these folders for many years.), and it didn't work. The U.I. Still appears to be broken.

.... err,,, didn't use cleanmgr.exe. Is that particular program mandatory to see the folder art?

Looking forward to the results of your research.

Will try to post the write-up the next week.

Regarding the 2nd part, I assume you're referring to thumbnails ("Folder pictures" option in folder properties). If your settings are not saved, try resetting folder views and clearing the thumbnail cache using Cleanmgr.exe. Alternatively, you may drop your post image in that folder's root and name the poster image file folder.jpg or folder.gif. It will be used as the folder thumbnail. After doing the above, you need to click "Restore Default" in the folder properties.

Go to the Microsoft Feedback Hub, and plus the restore folder.jpg issue. While it will not get immediate results, Microsoft claims that they listen. Unfortunately, unless feedback is posted on the "Hub", it makes it easy(er) for them to ignore the hue and cry from the millions of wounded users when they break the U.I.. also unfortunately, this forum is not an official site for input to Microsoft. If you cannot find the restore Folder.jpg issue; no worries, Just put it in again. (Perhaps both!) The more the merrier. :D

Edit: A quick google search for Microsoft Feedback Hub will get you a link to the app.

Care to share a how-to? I'd love to fix this for my collections as well. Even if it takes a bit of work.

Another issue I am seeing, even if I choose a photo file for the folder icon image, the system displays a random icon anyway. If I have a photo and a video in the same folder, half the time a random frame from the video is shown instead of the poster file. I'd love a fix for that as well. Any ideas?
