I am unable to set-up a new PIN as it asks for a security code to be sent on a number I no longer have. I just updated my number on microsoft accounts and it says will take 30 days before it takes effect. Now I can't even log into my laptop. No option for password login or to change to a local account. Someone HELP!!!

    Hi,

This is a very risky way of solving this issue. You will likely have to reinstall all of your apps because they will not be associated with the new account. I have had Microsoft attempt this on previous computers and been abandoned when despite my warnings deleted files which I had said not to touch. I was left totally blind without a graphics card.

There was no way back because none of the accounts were working along with a multitude of of Microsoft created issues.

Your best plan of action is to obtain the verification code as I have explained in a previous post.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Dana,

Obviously you have followed the link which brings up the sign in box to your account, but you receive no reply. Have you tried not signing into your account and instead supplying a different email address for the reply?

Even not signing in and supplying your original email address will work, Another alternative is to use a friends email address, obviously with permission. You can then change it again once you have regained access.

The email will go to your friend and he or she will have to pass the code across to you via phone or mobile. Again there are ways that you can receive the code via your mobile if you can access your email on line. This is how I accessed mine but I used a laptop that I borrowed and logged into the server.

Once you have, hopefully fixed the problem and your computer is again accessible here is a permanent fix to ensure that it never happens again.

'CREATE A LOCAL ACCOUNT.' 'ONLY SIGN INTO YOUR MICROSOFT ACCOUNT WHEN NEEDED.' 'NEVER STAY SIGNED IN.'

This will prevent this situation from arising. It can only happen if you are signed into your Microsoft account.

With a local account, you might have to reboot your computer, but you will then be in a position to enter your original password and carry on. And or create a new password, but you will be able to do that on screen without the need to receive a code.

Sorry I can't be more specific as having experienced it as we all have and then with a local account I cannot recall exactly how it went down with a local account. Just that, access was a breeze and I have now gone through this three times, each time after a Bios up date. and the third time, all I had to do was either simply reboot or I just typed in my password as if nothing had happened.

Again, if you are signed into your Microsoft account, you will get locked out every time and will require the code. I hope this helps.

    Regards

PS I have posted full explanation of one way of obtaining code, but doesn't work for everyone as it requires certain things to be in place.
