Already installed 2021-10 .NET 5.0.11 Security Update for Windows 11 for x64 Client tries and fails

I am getting Install Error - 0x80070643 on Windows 11 (22000.348). The update [2021-10 .NET 5.0.11 Security Update for Windows 11 for x64 Client (KB5007051)] is already installed. It downloaded the update successfully this evening. Retry results with the same error.

I tried Trouble shoot > Update wizard. It indicated it corrected an error without any specifics. But it did not resolve the problem.

I encountered the same problem on a Windows 10 computer last month or so. I saw on the forum that it was a Microsoft Update Catalog bug. Recommendation was to be patient at the time. The problem disappeared after few days by itself.

Thanks for any help.

I once saw a posting that indicated that MS has a tool (which can be downloaded) to stop specific updates coming up (again and again). I would appreciate it much if somebody has information about it and can share with us.

The MS tool to disable specific updates goes by the name wushowhide and can be downloaded from here: https://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab

    This is correct.

Our machines downloaded the security update for 5.0.11 and the update to 5.0.12 at the same time.

Windows update then applied 5.0.12 first, making security update for 5.0.11 invalid.

One of two things should have happened:

Windows Update should have applied the security update first, just to keep things tidy... OR

Windows Update should realize you don't have 5.0.11 anymore and not offer the security update.

In either case you probably don't need it because you don't have 5.0.11 anymore, you have 5.0.12.

    Axiomatic Colleagues of Mine:

This Windows update contradicts itself — it is a downgrade! .NET was already updated. This is from the Update history on my Windows 11 PC:

    2021-11 .NET 5.0.12 Update for x64 Client (KB5007884)

    Successfully installed on 11/9/2021.

This KB5007051 is an aberration. Let’s wait for the Patch Tuesday update (12/14/2021)...

Same exact thing here. Windows 11 (21H2), Brand New Microsoft Surface Laptop only installed a few things (office 365, Visual Studio 2019, VLC Media Player, and a couple of Audio Editors, and Handbrake) and this error is the first error to show up. Ran the troubleshooter but it didn't help. Just got this computer I think this is a Microsoft problem and they will eventually fix it.

Also, please note that all other updates are installing just fine it's only these two that seem to have this problem.
