Slide Show in Windows 11

This is no longer helpful. There has been an update to MS Win11 that removes the registry files that would allow the old File Explorer Slideshow to operate in the WIN11 environment. I had mine altered and a few months ago the MS update wiped the fix off my PC. Now I have no slideshow (NO, not the lock-screen or background slideshows. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!)

My complaint is to Win11 developers. Why would this be removed? And the Photos APP is not that great. I used to be able to quickly create a slideshow by highlighting several folders of sorted photos and clicking "Open in Slideshow" and it ran great. This didn't go out on the net, and there was never an update to the program. It was not a security risk. To me, the Win11 dev team seems to have purposely removed this service because they are either hoping to bring in something better or they are just torturing us in some cruel ingenious way. I refuse to believe that MS has such cruelty among it's employees! They work so hard to make these systems safe, reliable and fun to use. SO, i'm thinking they have something good coming down the road. Please don't disappoint me MS.

I have tried 3rd party apps. All are disappointing. They all want you to do things with your slideshow... create a disc, upload it to the cloud... set music to it and sacrifice a fruit cake or something. I just want a "On-The-Fly-Slideshow". It can't be that hard. But I guess it is. We have apps for just about everything...except that.

It is easy to get slideshow back.

1. Open the Photos app. (Click on the magnifying glass in the launch bar and type photos).
2. Within the Photos app go into settings by clicking the cog/gearwheel at the top.
3. Near the bottom there is a button labelled "Get Photos Legacy". Click it and install Photos Legacy.
4. Once installed, open explorer and navigate to the folder containing the images you want to slideshow.
5. Right click on an image, select Open With and choose to open with Photos Legacy.
6. And here you are - the old photos app you know and love - right-click the photo and you will see the slideshow option on the menu.

If you want your photos to always load in photos legacy rather than the new app, then in step 5 above click open with > Choose another app > Select photos legacy and check the "always use this app to open .jpg files" option.

The feature meant 2 clicks and I can compare photos.

"picture .... blah blah" I can't even remember it. I never read it as I clicked. 2 clicks and it was operative. Directly Within file explorer. No need for another app.

By the way, when did programmes become applications?
