Stop upgrade to Windows 11

I upgraded to Windows 11 and reverted back to Windows 10. Now Windows 10 automatically attempts to download and install Windows 11 again. See below:

I can Pause Updates but doing so doesn't allow me to update Windows 10 "patches." I'm being forced to Upgrade to Windows 11 without the ability to stop it.

I want to cancel the Upgrade to Windows 11 (download/installation) process which initiated on its own without my consent. The current status is how it shows in the image above - ready to download and then install Windows 11 but there is no way to stop it.

What I want:

  • Windows 10 to stop Upgrade to Windows 11 process
  • Ability to update Windows 10 without it upgrading/installing to Windows 11
  • Windows 10 with the ability to update patches
Windows for home | Windows 10 | Windows update

    Hello Paloma,

Thank you so much for this. It worked for me. I was almost at the "Restart to install" page and the method worked.

I want to add something here : Even after doing the whole process and normally restarting the machine, it would still show me the message to restart to complete the Windows 11 installation on the Windows Update page but clicking on the "Check compatibility/eligibility for Windows 11" on the right panel removed the prompt.

Also, I have a further question regarding this.
So if I decide to go back to upgrading to Windows 11, removing all the registry values that we updated as part of this solution, should work, right? Or should we follow some other procedure?

Does this stop all updates or just Windows 11 upgrade?

Thank you! I did the registry and GPO solution and only filled "Windows 10" with the version in blank. Waiting to see what happens.
