High ram usage while idle on a windows 11 pc

I have a relatively new Dell laptop that came with 8gb of RAM and Windows 11. My hard drive SSD has 60% free space. It was running at about about 55% memory in usage idle. After running Windows Update and installing all the updates, it still was using the same 55% of memory. My laptop had an empty memory slot, so I added a 2nd 8gb memory module, doubling the RAM to 16gb. But instead of cutting memory usage in half to 27%, it now uses 33-34% when idle. It seems like Windows 11 is using at least 20% more memory that it should be.

Well +40% is definitely not normal while having just Chrome and few utilities open with 16gb ram.. Have you tried looking at the memory usage on a clean install? (without keeping any of installed programs or files). You can also go to Services (local) by typing "services" on start and disable anything that shouldn't be running, otherwise download Process Lasso to see more in depth or add memory constraints. Be careful with windows services, if in doubt just leave them. Also, 9% GPU usage while idle is not very usual, specially on a gaming laptop. If you aren't watching videos, having games open or loads of widgets it should be around 0% to 3%.

Such noticeable ram issue may persist even if switching back but go ahead and try, just google "windows 10 installation media". How is it you say having just 10 days? Win11 is free forever to former win10 users and vice versa. You can easily just downgrade to win10 while keeping your programs and files, but again I'd recommend doing a clean install, then reinstall whatever you like while looking for what takes that much memory resource. If nothing works you may want to take a look at/replace your ram sticks. If your pc performance is so poor that it doesn't even handle with 3 programs at once then It should even be something else.

It's because windows 11 takes 4GB to run idle, the tasks are taking up another 4ish and laptops/some desktops have IGPUs which share system RAM. If you have a discrete GPU on desktop this wouldn't happen. Also it's never a good idea to have multiple game hubs running even in BG. Last note: Discord should never use that much RAM in BG ever.

I have the same issue. just reseted my pc and still the same, I need to find a way to go back to windows 10. how can I do it? I have a dell g7 with 16Gb of ram, and right after reseting my pc, it started with 43% of ram usage!!! basicaly I cannot run any other apps, or it get clogged so fast. Now I wanna go back to windows 10, but apparently I had only 10 days to do it (*#&($*!!!!!
