I2C HID Driver Touchpad Failure (I think I solved it)

If the touchpad on your laptop has failed. You're playing now you see it, now you don't wit TOUCHPAD in your settings. And no customer support can assist you from HP or MSFT, try this it just worked for me...

Go to DEVICE MANAGER

Expand HUMAN INTERFACE DEVICES

And you see 12C HID Device has an error.

If you click DRIVER and then UNINSTAL DEVICE the 12C HID Device is delisted, and on startup it magically refreshes.

I was hoping that would do it, but the TOUCHPAD was still inoperative, and the error persisted.

Then, on a wild thought. I repeated UNINSTAL on all of the HID-compliant Device tabs. My thought was the whole HID Device needed a reboot. As soon as they all delisted, I said a prayer and rebooted.

And my touchpad was finally restored!

I hope this helps others, as this was really frustrating.

Ps. In Touchpad settings (once you can access them again) it's also a good idea to tic LEAVE TOUCHPAD ON WHEN MOUSE IS CONNECTED.

    Update the Bios. If you are up to date and it is not working roll back to a previous version.

    I am using dell laptop and faced the same issue. Updating bios drivers by downloading the latest drivers from dell website did the job for me.

    I am having the same problem and I do this as the solution. However what is anoying me is that it is happening more than once a day, I am having to restart my PC evry time and is very counterproductive. I wounder what is crasing the hidi2c.inf and how can i solve it once for all.

    I have had the same touchpad problems and I have probably spent 4 hours contacting hp technical support put all they could do was temporarily fix it and the very next day it would stop working again.

    I did some experimenting with my laptop and figured out that overheating was the issue. I usually use my laptop on my bed with the charger plugged in, this caused my hardware to overheat stopping the 12c hid Device from working properly.

    So basically I just try to keep my laptop cool and my touchpad seems to be working now.

    (I am thinking about downloading an app that can cool your laptop down)

    Hi,

    I tried everything, I tried the uninstall and reboot, and I tried the uninstall all the compliant devices and rebooted everything. I'm going to give it one more go, but nothings worked. I need this computer for school and it has to last me 2 more years before I get to year 11, and we don't have money to buy a new one, school is becoming so difficult so if you have any other suggestions that would be really appreciated. :)
