I2C HID Driver Touchpad Failure (I think I solved it)

If the touchpad on your laptop has failed. You're playing now you see it, now you don't wit TOUCHPAD in your settings. And no customer support can assist you from HP or MSFT, try this it just worked for me...

Go to DEVICE MANAGER

Expand HUMAN INTERFACE DEVICES

And you see 12C HID Device has an error.

If you click DRIVER and then UNINSTAL DEVICE the 12C HID Device is delisted, and on startup it magically refreshes.

I was hoping that would do it, but the TOUCHPAD was still inoperative, and the error persisted.

Then, on a wild thought. I repeated UNINSTAL on all of the HID-compliant Device tabs. My thought was the whole HID Device needed a reboot. As soon as they all delisted, I said a prayer and rebooted.

And my touchpad was finally restored!

I hope this helps others, as this was really frustrating.

Ps. In Touchpad settings (once you can access them again) it's also a good idea to tic LEAVE TOUCHPAD ON WHEN MOUSE IS CONNECTED.

    Thank you so much.

    I was going insane. I tried all the previous solutions in the thread, but none worked for me.

    My problem started when I used a USB mouse on my laptop. Right after that, the touchpad was not working.

    For anyone with the same issue in the future, I disabled the HID/compliant system controller that the picture shows and uninstalled the 12 HID Device. After restarting the laptop, the touchpad was working again!

    Also, it may be a stupid comment to add, but the first time I tried this, it didn't work because I still had the USB mouse connected to the laptop. The whole thing should be done without it!

    My touchpad driver is not working. I have tried all the methods. But my touch pad is working in the BIOS. I don't know what is the issue. Someone Help me to fix this issue

    Yes man, me too.. incredible, this hardware off before i update my windows 11. Detail, my gram is new and use just in home. In 2 months he's die. LG detect hardware problem in your device ?Thanks man, internet not have content for us gram.

    YESS!!!!!! you seem to have resolved my 3 months problem and I must admit, I was almost about to give up. It used to be on/off behavior of my touchpad which was very irritating and I was almost about to get it fixed by changing the h/w but somehow I was not convinced and always stayed with the thought that if it worked once, it should have worked for the rest of the time "consistently". That made me believe that there must be a software reason behind and I tried all possible HP / MS forums to see what could have been done through drivers restore / win restore / rebooting multiple times / calling HP support / Installing old Synaptic driver / Elan driver and asking for help etc. I was so shocked to see the sudden behavior change of my touchpad device after 2-3 recent things:

    1. I had used a USB - C cable to charge instead of regular HP charger
    2. Recent Win 11 23H2 update
    3. Battery setting to move from Power Saver to High Performer

    Somehow I was coming to a conclusion that recent software changes might have brought a setting which plays with power configuration of device but I was not able to come to that 1 configuration which could have made it possible. So finally with your advice I did following:

    1. I changed configuration of all HID devices by TICKING OFF Power Management tab's value
    2. Restarted machine several times and allowed it to run at least 5-6 hours with expected behavior

    I can confirm TICKING OFF - "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" helps..
