I2C HID Driver Touchpad Failure (I think I solved it)

If the touchpad on your laptop has failed. You're playing now you see it, now you don't wit TOUCHPAD in your settings. And no customer support can assist you from HP or MSFT, try this it just worked for me...

Go to DEVICE MANAGER

Expand HUMAN INTERFACE DEVICES

And you see 12C HID Device has an error.

If you click DRIVER and then UNINSTAL DEVICE the 12C HID Device is delisted, and on startup it magically refreshes.

I was hoping that would do it, but the TOUCHPAD was still inoperative, and the error persisted.

Then, on a wild thought. I repeated UNINSTAL on all of the HID-compliant Device tabs. My thought was the whole HID Device needed a reboot. As soon as they all delisted, I said a prayer and rebooted.

And my touchpad was finally restored!

I hope this helps others, as this was really frustrating.

Ps. In Touchpad settings (once you can access them again) it's also a good idea to tic LEAVE TOUCHPAD ON WHEN MOUSE IS CONNECTED.

Hello everyone,

I was facing the issue from 6-7 months but there was no solution. This may be the issue of outdated drivers. In my case I am using windows 11 23h2 and hp didn't released software for this version of Windows. I tried everything in hope that their is something about outdated drivers.

Later one day I realised when a push the left side of my keyboard panel with a slight force it starts working and when I push it backward my TouchPad stop working again. In my case I did some hard and gentle pat on the panel both side on the right part., I know some of you will be laughing after reading this but believe me it worked. And not facing that issue from 2 months. I think there was some dust or chunk was stuck in the wire that connects TouchPad to the motherboard or I don't know.

Not only this don't check 12c hid. Have a lock on hid TouchPad and if you are seeing the (code 45) than I think you too are getting the hardware issue not software. (Code 45) the hardware is not connected to the computer.

i'm using msi gf63 thin 10 scxr and it has the same problem but i tried uninstalling it doesnt work
can anyone have the solution for this, i also downloaded driver from msi site(they have only windows 10 driver, i'm using windows11) and installed it and still have this problem, please anyone say a solution for this

If your ASUS laptop touchpad stops working after sleep mode, try this solution:
1. Follow ASUS website steps up to "Enable and reinstall drivers in Device Manager". Skip system restore/reset steps to avoid data loss.
2. After completing those steps, if your touchpad works temporarily but stops after sleep mode, try this: a. Open Device Manager b. Under "Human Interface Devices", right-click "ASUS Precision Touchpad" c. Click "Update driver" > "Browse my computer for drivers" > "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" d. Select the oldest version: "HID compliant touchpad" e. Click Next and complete installation
This method solved my ASUS touchpad issues that persisted for 6 months, even after BIOS reset, driver reinstallation, and Windows reset. The touchpad now works consistently, even after sleep mode.

Note: Ensure both "ASUS Precision Touchpad" and "I2C HID Device" are visible and working in Device Manager before applying this fix.
