"The username violates our guidelines"

I tried commenting on an article for the first time today. When i went to sign up and agree to the terms a window said in red letters "The username violates our guidelines"...

my username is my first and last name so I don't understand why I'm seeing this. There is no option to dispute on screen https://account.microsoft.com/profile?ocid=msedgntp

    The first sentence of my comment:

    "It would appear this Microsoft issue is not due to the moderators/Microsoft getting in on the very real and very worrisome trend of censoring opinions from the right in comment sections/videos/podcasts".

    It would appear this Microsoft issue is not due to the moderators/Microsoft getting in on the very real and very worrisome trend of censoring opinions from the right in comment sections/videos/podcasts etc etc. (ALTHOUGH NONE OF THE SOLUTIONS HAVE WORKED FOR ME). <political content removed> It is not far fetched in the least to assume Microsoft has joined Google/FB/Twitter/NYT/WaPo etc in various types of censorship.

    It is straight up happening and there are plenty of real world examples. The fact you are so quick to dismiss it is simply because you are on the other side of it and are not feeling or seeing the repercussions or you like it is happening. We do agree on one thing....our country is

    The censorship problem is very real, however, it isn't the issue that is causing commenters to get this error of "Username violates our standards".

    I'm a progressive with the same problem. I have a had a Microsoft account for decades. The other theory is old accounts are getting this error. Not everything in the whole world is due politics or "wokeness" or some other stupid thing. We've become a third world country where paranoia and conspiracy theories prevail.

    Agreed. This is a bug that Microsoft the corporation is ignoring. They don't care is all.
