I tried commenting on an article for the first time today. When i went to sign up and agree to the terms a window said in red letters "The username violates our guidelines"...

my username is my first and last name so I don't understand why I'm seeing this. There is no option to dispute on screen https://account.microsoft.com/profile?ocid=msedgntp

Thank you very much! This worked for me! No need to do the Rewards thing. Just installed the Microsoft Start - app (I did it on iOS not Android), signed in and tried to comment below any news. It came up with the Join Community pop-up where, in contrast to the browser version, it populated the user name according to the real name of my Microsoft account. I confirmed and now the community profile is usable also from Edge desktop!

Weird, cause I used to post a while back conservative comments and decided to hop on today for a little political tug-of-war to find out my username is also blocked keeping my comments blocked... I find it interesting that a lot of the comments bashing the right have common English words misspelled. They know how to spell "comrade" though!

Hi, I tried doing that on the MSN page and it's not very helpful because it only shows options for language and content, along with personalizing news feeds. Is there another way to fix this problem?

I found the way to fix. What you need to change is the name of the account of MICROSOFT COMMUNITY, which is right now on the top right. To make it look like a real name instead of meaningless characters and numbers, then sign out. Go to an article's comments, it will require you to sign in, so sign in. You will see the issue is fixed.

What worked for me was downloading the MS Start Android app and signing in. Once I was signed in, I picked a random story, and started the process of commenting on it. It verified some information, including my (now visible) name. I got all the way to the point of entering a comment and backed out.

After going back to my PC's browser and revisiting the story I had wanted to comment on originally, voila, I was able to comment without issue.

Hopefully this helps some of you struggling with this problem that Microsoft has thus far appeared to ignore.
