Introduction : About a week ago now, my CPU started idling around 60-70C with nothing open. It used to be around 50C - I have sufficient airflow in my case (Meshify C). I don’t remember installing any programs or updates around this time - in fact I think it started while I was in the middle of using the computer. It had been running fine for around a year. Problem : When I boot into Windows, all fans ramp up to full for a bit, then calm down. My idle temperature with nothing open is 60-70C, and maxes out at 80C if I put it under load. When I open some applications, the fans ramp up to full for a bit So far, I have: Reseated CPU/AIO Dusted my computer Replaced thermal paste (MX-4) Reset BIOS Cleared CMOS Done a fresh install (where it was still overheating before installing anything) Run Windows Memory Diagnostics (no problems) Changed power plan to balanced Run chkdsk (no problems) Other Information When in Safe Mode, the fans don’t run as high (so I assume that the temperature is fine, but I can’t tell because monitors don’t work) I didn’t have temperature problems in Ubuntu MATE when I checked with lm-sensors I have no overclocks except for XMP on the RAM System Specs Ryzen 9 5900X NViDIA RTX 3070 MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi MSI CoreLiquid 360R 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro Sabrent Rocket 4 (500GB) Windows 11 Pro (22000.434)

I'm having the same issue with an Intel I9-10850k . I also have dual boot to an Ubuntu. When my CPU is idle on Ubuntu, temps are around 45 degrees Celcius. On Windows 11 they scale up quickly to 85, 90 degrees while idle (CPU usage around 2% ~ 3%). Watching videos on Youtube using chrome with 2 monitors and 20+ tabs opened in Ubuntu rises the cores temperatures to around 75 degrees and the temperature drops back to normal 40 ~ 45 degrees when I close Chrome. In a fresh Windows 11 installation on the other hand, with a single monitor and only one Chrome tab opened (No extensions are installed in Chrome) makes some cores reach the critical 100 degrees temperature and the temperatures never drops on windows 11. This also happens for other browsers like their own MS Edge and Brave. I also changed the thermal paste twice, and cleaned the heatsink. This overheating issue is definitely something Windows 11 related. I'm Wondering if I can sue MS if their OS fries my CPU.

Surely they'll deny it like already blaming the users hardware for dust etc, changing to a new aio pump properly set and same problem occurs. I recently set the CPU to 75% maximum state to get relief of it overheating. Have noticed a few odd overheating issues like this: I signed into Windows and it again asked me to sign in again... The CPU went nuts! Wasn't until 5mins later that I signed out and back in that it settled immediately. Then the odd time signing out the fans kicked in full speed until I signed in for it to settle. A restart helped, but these issues have to be windows 11 related and maybe they know these issues exist but choose to turn a blind eye as probably can't fix them. Been tempted to look into a Linux OS but such a waste of money purchasing Win11 licence with the PC build.

I specially sign in to say THANK YOU to you! 😭😭 I just updated to win11 hours ago and noticed that my temp persist at 70C even when idle,, that never happened in win10. so weird! I tried your way w CPU performance and the temp now back calm down to 42C, all fans back silent too like in win10. Thanks god I read ur comment 😭😭😭

CPU Overheating in Windows 11

So far, I have:
