Introduction : About a week ago now, my CPU started idling around 60-70C with nothing open. It used to be around 50C - I have sufficient airflow in my case (Meshify C). I don’t remember installing any programs or updates around this time - in fact I think it started while I was in the middle of using the computer. It had been running fine for around a year. Problem : When I boot into Windows, all fans ramp up to full for a bit, then calm down. My idle temperature with nothing open is 60-70C, and maxes out at 80C if I put it under load. When I open some applications, the fans ramp up to full for a bit So far, I have: Reseated CPU/AIO Dusted my computer Replaced thermal paste (MX-4) Reset BIOS Cleared CMOS Done a fresh install (where it was still overheating before installing anything) Run Windows Memory Diagnostics (no problems) Changed power plan to balanced Run chkdsk (no problems) Other Information When in Safe Mode, the fans don’t run as high (so I assume that the temperature is fine, but I can’t tell because monitors don’t work) I didn’t have temperature problems in Ubuntu MATE when I checked with lm-sensors I have no overclocks except for XMP on the RAM System Specs Ryzen 9 5900X NViDIA RTX 3070 MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi MSI CoreLiquid 360R 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro Sabrent Rocket 4 (500GB) Windows 11 Pro (22000.434)

Same exact issue after upgrading to 22H2 build of Win 11. I wish I'd never done it. My PC fans were barely ever audible and now when restarting and at the login screen it sounds like a jet engine is about to take off. CPU temps ramp up extremely high when gaming going as high as 95-99 C. After weeks of tinkering, I found that it has something to do with Virtualization and/or Core Isolation > Memory Integrity. I turned off Memory Integrity and also checked on Virtual Machine Platform option from Turn Windows features on or off. Did a restart and my temps went back down to even when gaming they were around 50 - 60 C. Things stayed like that for a while until I updated my Nvidia drivers and did a restart. Now the issue is back and have been trying to apply the same fix for days without success. Oh, and mind you, this is AFTER doing a clean install of Windows 11 as suggested which fixed nothing. Extremely pissed off! This isn't a case of dirty fans or poor cooling issue. My PC is nearly dust-free and in a clean environment on top of my desk. The issue happened as soon as I upgraded to 22H2 and is clearly a Windows 11 issue. Fresh install of Windows 11 on a brand new Samsung 980 Pro SSD. Temps under Windows 10 were idling at about 35c. Now under Windows 11 I am idling at 80c and going up to 95 when gaming! ****?! Nothing else on my computer has changed at all. I did check everything inside the case to make sure it is all seated correctly. I even removed the AIO and cleaned and reapplied Arctic Silver to the CPU/AIO to see if that fixed it. Nope! Temps still stupid high. This is a Windows 11 issue and all the generic answers from MS support don't help. I have set my max CPU performance to 99% in 'edit power plan' and my temps have dropped to 60c, which is obviously better, but still way higher than I had under Windows 10. If you put two identical PCs next to each other, one with Windows 10 and one with Windows 11, the second one would run consistently higher with or without a system load. I can be watching YT and BBC on another tab, so two tabs and the temp is going up to 80s, gaming goes higher on certain games. System either freezes when the temp spikes or shutdowns or i have to shut everything down to get the temp to drop off. Its ridiculous and a total OS failure for so many users.

solved. I noticed that after updating to Windows 11, some drivers from the previous windows 10 OS were also running in the background. purged the old drivers, temp files, dump logs etc. and now running idol at 104F/40C. Gamming at 165F/74C.

This instantly took my idle temp down from 170F/77C to 130F/54C Edit... I'd like to add that I'm still not back to my standard idle temp of 90F/32C prior to the W11 upgrade. I did the upgrade February 23, 2023 so that I could utilize the Wi-Fi 6E 160MHz (currently getting 1100+ Mbps download / 45- Mbps upload on wi-fi 6) Dug into the old control panel and changed the power settings from "High Performance" to "Balanced" so that I could make power adjustments in the W11 System settings. CPU Overheating in Windows 11

Introduction:

Problem:

So far, I have:

Reseated CPU/AIO
Dusted my computer
Replaced thermal paste (MX-4)
Reset BIOS
Cleared CMOS
Done a fresh install (where it was still overheating before installing anything)
Run Windows Memory Diagnostics (no problems)
Changed power plan to balanced
Run chkdsk (no problems)

Other Information

When in Safe Mode, the fans don’t run as high (so I assume that the temperature is fine, but I can’t tell because monitors don’t work)
I didn’t have temperature problems in Ubuntu MATE when I checked with lm-sensors

solved.

I noticed that after updating to Windows 11, some drivers from the previous windows 10 OS were also running in the background.

purged the old drivers, temp files, dump logs etc. and now running idol at 104F/40C. Gamming at 165F/74C.

I'd like to add that I'm still not back to my standard idle temp of 90F/32C prior to the W11 upgrade.
