Thanks so much. Windows 11 got in for just those 3 days. I did assorted fixes (which included restoring from my back up drive) then ended up with the 35 day block solution.
I am near Vancouver BC and there is plenty of help available for $$. I just hate to pay if I can fix. but this might be beyond that. I have system restore on a USB.
As relates to the Windows 11 issue. there are many different threads even here on this support forum. One response I found today looks interesting

Hi ,Pat9ss
Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for sharing your concern with us today.
Try the following steps to see if it solves the problem.
Close update in service
1. First use the Win + R combination shortcut key to open the run dialog box, then enter the command services.msc and click "OK" below to open the service
2. Find the "Windows Update" option in the Win10 service settings, and double-click to open it
3. Then in the Windows Update properties settings, change the startup type to "Disabled", then click "Stop" below, and finally click "Apply" at the bottom to save the settings
4. Next, switch to the "Restore" option, change the default "Restart Service" to "No Operation", and click "Apply" below when finished.
Hope this helps, and have a nice day.
Best Regards,
Hinata
I started going through the steps but I did not get EXACTLY the same details as shown so I backed out. Again! Haha - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! I will prevail, one way or another. Let me know if you try this too.
Happy New Year with or without Windows 11!!!!
