Susan, how old is your laptop? If it is newer and totally capable of running Windows 11, then take your laptop to someone who really knows what they are doing. For peace of mind, that is what you should do.

I'm glad you backed out on that one solution. As you can clearly see, this leading you down the road to hell which is why I won't do any of that.

If your laptop is older and questionable about how much Ram you have and everything you need in order to run Windows 11 properly, I would buy a new one with Windows 11 installed. Save all of your important files and photos and documents to the cloud (one drive, google drive or USB drives). Once you have the new laptop working, just install all of your files you need or want.

Getting old and not understanding all this computer stuff is enough to make you want to tear your head off. Gosh, we have so many other things to worry about right?

I'd like to send you a personal message or exchange emails privately, but I don't know how to do that. I'd love to stay in touch with you as we go down this road together. Sympathy loves company. :)

Thanks so much. Windows 11 got in for just those 3 days. I did assorted fixes (which included restoring from my back up drive) then ended up with the 35 day block solution.

I am near Vancouver BC and there is plenty of help available for $$. I just hate to pay if I can fix. but this might be beyond that. I have system restore on a USB.

As relates to the Windows 11 issue. there are many different threads even here on this support forum. One response I found today looks interesting

    Hi ,Pat9ss

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for sharing your concern with us today.

Try the following steps to see if it solves the problem.

    Close update in service

    1. First use the Win + R combination shortcut key to open the run dialog box, then enter the command services.msc and click "OK" below to open the service

    2. Find the "Windows Update" option in the Win10 service settings, and double-click to open it

    3. Then in the Windows Update properties settings, change the startup type to "Disabled", then click "Stop" below, and finally click "Apply" at the bottom to save the settings

    4. Next, switch to the "Restore" option, change the default "Restart Service" to "No Operation", and click "Apply" below when finished.

Hope this helps, and have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Hinata

I started going through the steps but I did not get EXACTLY the same details as shown so I backed out. Again! Haha - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! I will prevail, one way or another. Let me know if you try this too.

Happy New Year with or without Windows 11!!!!

    Susan :-)

Oh Susan! I was going to check with you next week to see where you were. I'm still pausing as every other option involves messing with the registry keys so I'm not doing it.

For business reasons I can't have my printer not work or my computer mess up with the new Windows 11 so I'm waiting until end of Feb. to just take the plunge and let it install on my computer.

Now with you, are you saying you have duplicates of EVERYTHING since trying to roll back to Windows 10? I didn't think you had let Windows 11 install on your computer??

If you start a new thread, can you give me the link as I want to stay in contact with you and follow up with you. I feel so bad for you. I think you might be in need of a real computer technician. Is there any qualified computer techs near you where you live? It sounds like a tech would back up your original Windows 10 installation and all of your files and then do a whole new clean install of it. That is way beyond what I know what to do.

PortlandMT ALL my files now have copies.

    Everything, photos, PDFs Word Docs.

Can you check if this happened to you too?

I shall start a new thread but curious if we can trace it back to Window 11 and my re-installs trying to get rid of Windows 11.

Unhappy. My back hard drive is 2TB and is FULL

    Susan

    Agreed!

Hang in there. I guess if it never resolves and gets worse, it's time for a whole new computer and we start over.
