how do i stop downloading and installing windows 11

What you need to do is quickly when you are nearing the end of the 'pause', click 'check updates'. If it is Windows 11 again, it will ask you when you would like to schedule it and it will be a clock like schedule only showing about 12 hours on the clock. Just go down and pause it for 35 days again. You can pause it for 35 times at a time. Just remember to do this before it ends. If you don't, you will wake up one morning and Windows 11 will be fully installed on your computer.

Another person in this thread just disabled the updater. Then you don't have to keep remembering to pause it.

Thank you for letting me know. May I ask why you don't want Windows 11 and also do you intend on installing Windows 11 anytime soon or in the near future? I've now spoken to two of my family members who upgraded. One upgraded because they wanted to and the other person just woke up one morning and sure enough, there was Windows 11 on the desktop. Both said they haven't had any issues and wasn't much different than Windows 10.

I'm still debating and pausing all the time the installation of it.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I'm having a conversation with Susan and both her and I share the same concerns. I doubt highly I offended Susan by asking if why she may not want to upgrade to Windows 11.

This was not your conversation so it would be logical then that none of it is your business as to Susan and I sharing our angst over the upgrade.

You are free to roam around the cabin and do what you please, but you may not dictate a conversation about concerns that I have.

Hi Susan, my pause will reset on January 21st. Because we have them 'paused', you won't know if there is an update for Windows 10 unless you click 'check for updates'. If it is a Windows 10 update, you should be able to see which update it is and install it or at least in theory that is what is supposed to happen. Once a potential updated for Windows 10 is installed, you'll need to go back and you'll see where it is prompting you to install Windows 11 and pick a date. That is when you pause it again for 35 days.

I'll find out what happens on Jan. 21st and post back to your right away so that you know what to expect on Jan. 22nd.

I also upgraded to Windows 11 and found that some things did not work. I went through the steps in Kapil's guide. Everything was fine - until the next day when I found that Windows 11 had been automatically installed again!!!!! Went through the rollback process.

Now the question is: how do I KEEP windows 11 off my computer?

I saw one post about modifying the registry under WindowsUpdate by adding/setting TargetReleaseVersion to "1" and TargetReleaseVersionInfo to "21H2." According to the article this restricts automatic updates to that release version. Is this a valid solution?

However, I don't want to do this. Right now I have the Windows Update service disabled.

FYI - I am running a windows home version of 10.

I am having the same problem and I have also disabled the Windows Update today. Has this worked for you so far or is that a waste of time as well?

This is driving me absolutely mad and no-one can provide you with a proper answer.
