Windows 11 Screensaver / Display Sleep functions not working

A few weeks ago, I can't remember exactly when it occurred (May have been after installing W11) my screensaver and display sleep functions just completely stopped working. I have tried every trick in the book. I have updated my BIOS and chipset drivers. Powercfg -requests shows an audio stream running from realtek, I tried overriding it but didn't solve anything. I confirmed every power option setting is correctly enabled. Basically I've spent extensive time googling and troubleshooting this to no avail.

The one thing that did fix it was running the DISM restore commands in CMD Prompt, however, it only works temporarily for the initial reboot after running that command, and then it stops working again if I reboot a 2nd time.

What can I do to fix this problem?

My screen saver stopped working over a month ago. I tried all the fixes, except reloading Win11.

Reading through all the posts, I noticed one mentioned a USB game controller. I checked mine and found I had left my Realflight Interlink Controller plugged in.

Removed this, and screen saver worked again.

Although some posts mention they did not have usb game controllers, perhaps it could be that Win11 thinks they do, and then assuming they are playing a game, does not interrupt with a screen saver.

Even if my proposition is correct, I would not wish to advise on a possible fix.

In the meantime, thanks for the posts, a careful read and it got me to the root cause on my pc. Thanks, good luck, and seasons greetings to you all.

I don't have a USB gamepad. Is this something that needs to be removed from device manager even if you don't have one?
