Windows 11 Screensaver / Display Sleep functions not working

A few weeks ago, I can't remember exactly when it occurred (May have been after installing W11) my screensaver and display sleep functions just completely stopped working. I have tried every trick in the book. I have updated my BIOS and chipset drivers. Powercfg -requests shows an audio stream running from realtek, I tried overriding it but didn't solve anything. I confirmed every power option setting is correctly enabled. Basically I've spent extensive time googling and troubleshooting this to no avail.

The one thing that did fix it was running the DISM restore commands in CMD Prompt, however, it only works temporarily for the initial reboot after running that command, and then it stops working again if I reboot a 2nd time.

What can I do to fix this problem?

I have been following this thread, also trying to figure out why my computer wasn't going to sleep on it's own, and wakes up by itself. After all of the attempts from the first page of this thread, I read you unplugged a joystick and that solved it for you. I recently purchased a Thrustmaster flight control joystick/throttle system for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and after unplugging them, my computer is behaving nicely.

This thread is little over a year old, but solved my issue. So glad you posted this, and that I found it!

    Thank you!!

I have a brand new computer, built from scratch. Every component is new. Clean install of Windows 11 from a USB drive. Once I had all the updates done and minimum software installed (Windows11, Chrome, Office365) the screensaver stopped working.

I've tried all the "fixes" in this 9 page thread and still no dice.

Well get this. I just had to do another clean format and install due to a RAID issue. (This is my 2nd PC for gaming only so its easy to start from scratch)

And lo and behold the screensaver is working. The thing is I have no idea what the difference is now. I set up Windows and settings the same way I always have them and installed all the exact same apps as before.

New Windows update as of today Jan. 26, 2023 KB5022360 highlights 5 fixes. This one below is #5 in their highlights.

"This update addresses an issue that affects some game controllers. When the game controller is connected to the computer, the computer might not go to Sleep mode."

Hopefully this is the game controller fix that we've been wanting!

After hours of troubleshooting this, unplugging a joystick, namely a VelocityOne Flightstick, resolved the issue instantly. MS really need to fix this!
