If you are using Windows 11, you can try this:

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. On the top bar, click the right most "..." to open more option
  3. Click "option"

there are three tabs on the top, what you have to do is to click the "restore to default" button on each tab.

remember to click "apply".

Hope this help.

Frank

THANKS - VERY GOOD

    FINALLY I FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!

It is a very easy fix. Basically disconnect OneDeive from your device!! That's it!!

Google "how to unlink my windows from OneDrive" and follow the steps. Make a copy of your desktop file and docs before you do this.

    Hope it helps.

Is this a Windows 11 issue?

I ask because I have used Windows since version 1.0.

I have never experienced this issue, ever over the entire life of Windows until I moved to Windows 11.

The very first Reply in this thread goes something like this:

    Hi ,RICHARDALLECA

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    1. Use the cleaning software to clear the system cache.
    2. There may be a problem with the registry settings or the lack of relevant setting options.

Win'+'R', enter "regedit" and press Enter to open the Registry Editor, and then expand the following location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update

Click 'Update', find the name 'UpdateMode' on the right, double-click to open it, a window will appear and change its value to 0 (hexadecimal), OK.

    1. If you can't find a new one for Uptate, click Control, right mouse button, 'New', 'Item'

    Name the new item, "Update"

Click the right mouse button of Update, "New">"DWORD (32-bit) Value", rename, the data of UpdateMode is 0

Exit the Registry Editor and restart the system.

Why must "valued" Microsoft customers be put through this poor quality software simply because we were stupid enough to upgrade to Windows 11 over a year after its introduction?

These are serious questions. Please Reply responsibly and politely.

This issue is wreaking havoc on my productivity. I want my Windows 10 back.

This solution totally fixed the issue for me! Thanks a lot, Szczerbo! I have tried several other fixes before which didnt help.

I had a mapped Linux Samba drive in Win11. Btw thats too sad that we cant have refreshing feature altogether with mapped network drive.

It helped me as well, but I didn't need to remove the Network drive. The issue I had is that I mapped a network drive that required me to be connected to a VPN to gain access. I rarely am connected to the VPN, but after reading Szczerbo's comment I just tried connecting to the VPN so that the fileshare would load and sure enough all my other folders started working perfectly.

Thanks, but I've noticed the entire folder 'Update' doesn't exist.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control - this part is fine, however the "\Update" bit isn't there at all

Should I create is and then add a subfolder UpdateMode to that? Or is my Windows 10 install somehow missing something?

    Many thanks
    Simon
