how do I fix desktop and file folders that do not refresh automatically?

If you are using Windows 11, you can try this:

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. On the top bar, click the right most "..." to open more option
  3. Click "option"

there are three tabs on the top, what you have to do is to click the "restore to default" button on each tab.

remember to click "apply".

    THANKS - VERY GOOD

    Only the first tab was necessary.

    I believe this was caused when I copied hundreds of folders from my old laptop's folder to my new laptop. Old laptop was running Windows 10 and new one is running Window 11. Or it was when I moved my backup drive to be sync'd from new laptop and sync'd it using File History created with old laptop.

    But this solution only works for the folder you reset. I have to do it to every folder! I have literally hundreds of folders I copied over.

    You are kidding me, right? We have to edit the Registry so that File Explorer will refresh?!!? Did Microsoft design File Explorer to work this way? These are serious questions.

    This solution totally fixed the issue for me! Thanks a lot, Szczerbo! I have tried several other fixes before which didnt help.

    I had a mapped Linux Samba drive in Win11. Btw thats too sad that we cant have refreshing feature altogether with mapped network drive.
