how do I fix desktop and file folders that do not refresh automatically?

If you are using Windows 11, you can try this:

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. On the top bar, click the right most "..." to open more option
  3. Click "option"

there are three tabs on the top, what you have to do is to click the "restore to default" button on each tab.

remember to click "apply".

    OK, I need some clarification, please.

    Is "desig" is the actual User, .i.e, "DesignHippie"?

    IF "yes" then my OneDrive folder does not have a Desktop subfolder. It has all my folders that I use with OneDrive.

    IF "no" then could you clarify how to find "C:\Users\desig\Onedrive\Desktop"

    This post has been open since July, 2022 with no successful response. I am chompin' at the bit to affect a Final Resolution.

    if you do not see the update folder then right click on the "Control" folder and select new>key then rename the newly created folder to "Update" then follow the steps mentioned to create a DWORD value

    When you unlink your device from OneDrive and stop it from backuping your device autimatically you can still use OneDrive is a cloud drive to save documents. The point is that when you unlink it you stop it from acting as your virtual destop. I personally don't rely on OneDrive for saving my documents or photos on the cloud. You will still see OneDrive in the File Explorer and you can move files to it.

    You are kidding me, right? We have to edit the Registry so that File Explorer will refresh?!!? Did Microsoft design File Explorer to work this way? These are serious questions.
