how do I fix desktop and file folders that do not refresh automatically?

If you are using Windows 11, you can try this:

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. On the top bar, click the right most "..." to open more option
  3. Click "option"

there are three tabs on the top, what you have to do is to click the "restore to default" button on each tab.

remember to click "apply".

    If you are using OneDrive, that might be the reason. It was the same for me, I unlinked my device and it was solved

    I'm logging here only to thank you. The problem is OneDrive.

    I deleted the app and works.

    I had the same issue. I tried the Registry Entry and the SFC command. Neither changed the problem. But...

    I checked my mapped network links and had a few (8) stale entries to systems that no longer existed. I removed those stale mapped network drives and rebooted the system. File Explorer and Desktop now update immediately. Thanks to Szczerbo for making me look there.

    I think this type of bugs was always present in Windows in all versions from the first beginning and will continue to be in all types of software. We do not need to go to the extreme and acuse Microsoft for not value the customers. I said it, when you have a computer and Windows OS you need to be more or less of a tech savvy and try to resolve the issues on the go searching and put a lot of passion in it.
