Windows 11 Indexing is paused

What the hell is up with Windows 11 and the indexing being paused?

I was told by customer help to rebuild, which I did. And it took forever to index a few thousand files (because "indexing is paused") and was still not finished when...

Yesterday, windows took it upon itself to start rebuilding without discussing it with me first, and now I am back at square one - its taking like a bazillion years because "indexing is paused".

All search results return as not found !!!!!!!!!!

Does anybody know how to fix this ****?

    I see other complaints going back to October 2021 if I search for "indexing windows 11" in the "Microsoft Feedback Hub". But this "answers.microsoft.com" forum is the only place where I found a solution (albeit transitory) posted by JC305 above to stop and restart the WSearch service whenever this happens.

    I am also having this issue. You say this has existed for at least 5 months - is there another place that is tracking status that shows the progress?

    Thank you, that is very helpful. I hope Microsoft will fix this bug soon. As of April 2022, it appears this problem has existed for at least 5 months. I am fulling updated on all windows updates. I purchased my laptop in January and it came with Windows 11 and I upgraded to Windows 11 Pro. This search problem keeps me from finding recent emails on my laptop outlook or recent new files on my laptop until I restart the search service like you described.

    Yes.. its working after service restart. But its not the permanent solution . After couple of hours its getting paused again.
