Windows 11 Bluetooth no sound/microphone and crashing

My Bluetooth earphones have been working well all the time until I upgraded my laptop to Windows 11. The laptop shows my earphones are connected, but neither sound nor microphone works. The browser and Zoom crash every time I try to use Bluetooth earphones to listen to music or join meetings.

I have tried disconnecting/reconnecting Bluetooth earphones, turning on/off Bluetooth, resetting my earphones, restarting my laptop, and none of these resolves the issues of no sound/mic and crashing. I even bought a new pair of Bluetooth earphones, and it did not work either.

I think this is a bug in Windows 11. Am I the only one facing this issue? What exactly is going on with Windows 11 Bluetooth? And what else can I do now?

I have an updated workaround that can be found in this thread:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/all/no-audio-output-on-bluetooth-headset-in-ms-teams/17ce7c68-4331-48a4-8ca5-637696f09e94

    Long story short:

Bluetooth chipset manufacturers like Qualcomm don't release the drivers for their devices themselves. The integrator (Lenovo, HP, Dell) has to test, package and release those. In my case Lenovo is just lazy and does not release the newer driver versions that are made available to them by Qualcomm. I found a driver packaged by HP that is working for my device which kind of fixed the issue. Still not optimal (robot voices due to wrongly selected audio output device by windows), but improved (at least useable) compared to the situation before. I already complained with Lenovo but as usual: Nobody is responsible on their side *sic

You can be sure, that my next Notebook will be again an Intel platform device, as Intel releases their own drivers and is pretty darn quick and clean with those.

This just shows how bad the situation has become, over year old bug that has never been resolved now has further potential causes instead of solutions. It's an absolute dealbreaker to not be able to take meetings with headsets the users already own (and which previously worked without issue!).

Come on Microsoft, this is an absolute joke!

The newer reports in this thread are most likely due to the changed handling of Bluetooth headset introduced with Windows 11 Update 22H2. Windows now automatically decides when to use the handsfree and when the music profile, and especially in headset/handsfree cases this is not working at all. Microphone works, but no audio output (or the other way round)

Rolling back the update (Settings -> System -> Recovery -> Go back) is the only workaround I have right now.

I have the same problem with JBL Live 500BT headphones. Win11 shows that headphones connected but doesn't use them for sound output or mic input. I have to disconnect and connect them again. Only in this stupid case Win11 starts use them.
But Win11 doesn't work with QCY-T5 in any scenarios.

Microsoft, when this bug be fixed?!

It's definitely something wrong with the MS Bluetooth stack, as alternative a2dp driver that you can find online works for audio, but unfortunately limited to sbc codec so its low quality and volume control is a bit broken

whatever's wrong with their bluetooth stack needs to be fixed as some 3rd party one works fine.
