Windows 11 Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.376)

The latest couple of updates continually fail - it retries and they fail with the same error. Have run DISM / SFC and both say no issues found. Have run the windows update troubleshooter, including following steps to reset windows update, and that has made no difference. Other windows updates seem to install OK - just these two fail.

Tried downloading the two update packages as stand-alone installers to manually install as well from windows download site, but they also failed to install.

  • 2022-01 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 11 for x64 (KB5008880)
    Install error - 0x800f0922
  • 2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5009566)
    Install error - 0x80071ab1

Some forums said one could be due to disk space, but all my disks have hundreds of GB free.

Same problem here. So frustrating! KB5010795 did not resolve anything.

it almost seems like the first two are blocking the "corrected" fix to install properly...like there are some remnants left behind and need to be cleaned up first to allow the third to install. The .NET fix probably is a prerequisite for the cumulative update, and it has some flaws.

I wonder how many other users are experiencing these same issues or if the majority have been able to install successfully. I had windows 10 pro until I upgraded to Windows 11 in Oct; other updates have worked successfully.

The latest out-of-band update released on 17th Jan seems to have resolved the issues:

KB5010795 (OS Build 22000.438) 2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems

After installing that via windows update, KB5009566 disappeared and KB5008880 installed without a problem.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/january-17-2022-kb5010795-os-build-22000-438-out-of-band-2d2b9310-d845-41c4-9907-aeea24f36a63

(Could a mod mark this is the answer please? :)

This is not a solution. Neither update packs can be automatically installed for me:
KB5010795 - We couldn't install this update, but you can try again (0x80071a91)
    KB5008880 - Install error (0x80071a91)

Both KBs failed manual installation/patching from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/ , regardless of the order I've tried installing them.

Microsoft better get their ducks in a row.

Was getting irritated by this too, the only resolution that works for me was to download the Win 11 ISO, and do an in-place upgrade keeping all files and apps, took about 30 mins and then I was able to run the KB5010795 update, reboot and then the others cleared.
Not great when this was a new PC that came with Win11 preloaded, but after trying all the other resets I didn't see what other choices were left!
