Can't switch out of S mode: "Try that again"

I recently purchased a laptop that came with the S mode of Windows. On the first startup it automatically installed Windows 11 (so downgrading to 10 is not an option). After set up etc. I updated Microsoft Store and installed various Windows updates and tried to switch it out of S mode. Instead, for the past few hours and with each of the hundreds of attempts, I keep getting a window that says "Try that again. Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help" along with an error code that changes every time. I am burned out and all out of ideas, any assistance on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

yes. I get a blank screenpop (greyed out), and after a minute or two, it goes away, but doesn't switch out of S mode.

Same issue here, tried to find a way around it using cmd [not available in s mode] everything, tried to clean wipe a brand new laptop with no success. Feels like a Microsoft version of a chromebook at this point as i bought this laptop to use 3rd party applications for automotive tuning and cannot use it at all until this issue is resolved. $600 ideapad 3 paperweight.

This is my experience exactly. That screen shot could have been mine, on my one-day-old Lenovo. Has anyone actually heard from Microsoft about this?
