Can't switch out of S mode: "Try that again"

I recently purchased a laptop that came with the S mode of Windows. On the first startup it automatically installed Windows 11 (so downgrading to 10 is not an option). After set up etc. I updated Microsoft Store and installed various Windows updates and tried to switch it out of S mode. Instead, for the past few hours and with each of the hundreds of attempts, I keep getting a window that says "Try that again. Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help" along with an error code that changes every time. I am burned out and all out of ideas, any assistance on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Same issue. Tried everything. So ridiculous. Returning this garbage tomorrow. Way to go, Microsoft. My first experience with this new laptop is, "God, I hate Microsoft."

    This worked for me! the region was set to US underlying something or other and switched it to just US and it worked even without restarting it. Very grateful for the fix!

    i changed regions and it let me switch out s mode

    It worked for me. I am in Venezuela right now, so I switched the region to United States and then I create a new Outlook account. I hit the button to switch off S mode and It worked fine.

    PD: You need to update everything in your laptop if it is the first time using it. And you have to check out that your time and date are updated too.
