Can't switch out of S mode: "Try that again"

I recently purchased a laptop that came with the S mode of Windows. On the first startup it automatically installed Windows 11 (so downgrading to 10 is not an option). After set up etc. I updated Microsoft Store and installed various Windows updates and tried to switch it out of S mode. Instead, for the past few hours and with each of the hundreds of attempts, I keep getting a window that says "Try that again. Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help" along with an error code that changes every time. I am burned out and all out of ideas, any assistance on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, contact their support who will log in remotely and spend hours removing it 🤦🏻 how dumb to put their people and customers through this 🙅

Have Microsoft provided any actual solution to this? Got a new laptop today (Lenovo) and I've spent hours trying to switch out of S mode to no avail, having tried every suggestion I've been able to find. It's a huge inconvenience.

    Stop ...........The Actual Resolve

After returning a "S" mode laptop yesterday then reading these answers, I purchased another laptop and for 24 hours appox, tried to install Plex which was blocked, then as mentioned 24hr later it "just " unlocked the "S" mode no reinstall needed all is now well.

Guess it takes 24hrs to replicate the concerns on the MS servers to then make the change
