Verizon/AOL e-mail setup for Windows Mail app and Outlook

i have a Windows 11 Dell XPS computer (2021) and am finding it hard to set up Verizon/AOL e-mail on either the home Windows e-mail app or in the Office Outlook e-mail app.

I know that since Verizon's e-mail migration to AOL there came some changes about June or July of this year that affect Windows computers handling Verizon/AOL e-mail...

And that is where the problem lies! I used to be able to follow these steps to establish e-mail in the Windows e-mail app:

  1. Hit search box and then click on SETTINGS
  2. In SETTINGS click on accounts
  3. On next screen click on E-MAIL AND APP ACCOUNTS
  4. In next window click on ADD AN ACCOUNT
  5. In ADD AN ACCOUNT scroll down to SUN SYMBOL. Click on this for ADVANCED SETUP
  6. In ADVANCED SETUP click on INTERNET E-MAIL Next come a series of categories where the rectangular squares need filled in:

E-MAIL ADDRESS [I put ******@verizon.net]

USER NAME [I put ******@verizon.net}

PASSWORD [i put in my AOL/Verizon password]

ACCOUNT NAME [I put in AOL Verizon E Mail]

SEND MESSAGES USING THIS NAME [I used my first and last name]

INCOMMING MAIL SERVER [I put pop.verizon.net:995]

ACCOUNT TYPE [I put pop3]

The next 4 have checks marks to the left beside them [uncheck the last 3]:

Outgoing server requires authenticatioin

Use same user name and password for sending e-mail

Require SSL for incoming e-mail

Require SSL for outgoing e-mail

After doing so, more categories appear and have to be filled in:

OUTGOING (Smtp e-mail server [i put smtp.verizon.net:465]

Fill in OUTGOING SERVER USER NAME [ same as user name above]

OUTGOING SERVER PASSWORD [same as password used in PASSWORD]

Then went back and checked the 3 unchecked boxes and then hit SIGN IN

And.....still no mail .....!!!

I even tried the suggestions Kevin-MSFT had if setup of MAIL for OUTLOOK did not work and there were:

Go to login.aol.com/account/security and log in with your Verizon [AOL] E-Mail account and password

Click on ACCOUNT SECURITY, then click on GENERATE APP PASSWORD

From the select your app drop down menu under the app passwords window select OUTLOOK [for Outlook] and fill in 

Windows 11 E Mail [for that mail app]

Then click GENERATE [password] and copy that password

Go back to CHANGE ACCOUNT SETTINGS and paste generated password [for whichever mail app it was generated for]

Hit CONNECT

Suffice it to say that hasn't worked either in Windows 11

Am i formatting/imputting the info or settings wrong or are there some extra steps i am missing?

Any help anyone can give regarding this in Windows 11 would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you so much for providing the additional details. I consider myself a techie person, since I've been building my own machines for decades now, but I still couldn't find where this was hidden.

    The other part that I cannot find anywhere that would be appreciated if someone provides a comprehensive response with all of the steps included is the server information and settings.

    Verizon support promised to get some help for me on this, but it's more than a week now and they have yet to respond to anything.

    Please listen to me for future reference: You skip a lot of steps that you just know. Most people, like me, older and don't whiz around this stuff all of the time, NEED specific and exacting instructions! You say just log in to AOL and go to generate password. HOW DO YOU GET TO THE POINT OF GENERATING A PASSWORD? You skip just a few VERY IMPORTANT steps like:

    Click on upper right picture icon for "profile"

    Click on left, account security

    Scroll down to where it says "other ways to sign in"

    Click Generate and manage app passwords.

    Enter the app you want the password for.

    Generate the password.

    Write down or copy the password to your clipboard.

    Then go back to Outlook or whatever app you are using and enter this password in place of your log on password.

    Now, if you can't understand that the people you are answering questions for need instructions down to this detail, YOU SHOULD NOT BE HELPING THEM. Go find some techie people and help them, but do not try to help people that are barely able to do anything other than to open their computer, enter their password and open an app. THAT IS ALL A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW. Treat them with respect and patience and try to understand where they are coming from. They don't need to know how smart you are or anything else, they just need simple directions to what should be simple problems. It would have been nice to get a notification that things were changing, and we probably got one, but whoever wrote it didn't write in language many of its users could understand if they did and left us with a relatively complicated process with no instructions and no idea what was wrong!

    See, it's not complicated to you. "You just................" We don't need "you just........."

    How many ways can I put this....................... Think of it as you would if you were explaining the issue to your grandmother, or great grandmother who has a computer that you set up for them and they needed to make the changes without you there.

    THAT is where a very large portion of the people asking questions are coming from. Actually they are a step above that because they found a forum to seek help. But the others are searching for answers to and will come across your answer in a search.

    Someone has combined my December 5th and December 6th posts to make it all the more confusing.

    The key to resolving aol/verizon e-mail setup issues is to log in to aol.com with your last usable aol/verizon e-mail password, go down to generate password, type in what you need the password for [ie. OUTLOOK], hit generate password, save that password and then when you go back to Advanced Setup to set up your OUTLOOK e-mail, paste (or type in) that generated password.Do all the other set up settings, etc and finish.

    NOTE: That "generated password" only works for the specific e-mail [ie. "OUTLOOK"] that you generated the password for. For, like, WINDOWS 11 MAIL APP, you need to go back, log in to AOL.com with your old password, go to GENERATE PASSWORD, type[Windows 11 MAIL] and "generate password" for that e-mail app too. Then go to Advanced Setup and follow the steps, putting this password where needed!
