Windows 11 File Explorer Right-click Menu was changed to include icons

Who did this and why do they do it (see picture below)? The File Explorer right-click menu has had the options: Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete listed (as words) in this menu FOREVER and now some genius decided that after all these years, Windows users are too dumb to read. The words were replaced with icons. THIS IS SO ANNOYING. THE MUSCLE MEMORY IN MY HANDS IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO RETRAIN AFTER YEARS OF THE MENU BEING THE SAME WAY. Now I have to stop and think about something that I've done instinctively for years. I can get to the ORIGINAL right-click menu by selecting "Show More Options," shown in the photo below, but WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO, THAT'S AN EXTRA STEP? If I am intelligent enough to boot up a computer, then certainly I can read the words: Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename and Delete. I don't need you to create icons to represent those functions. IF IT'S NOT BROKEN THEN DON'T TRY TO FIX IT. STOP DUMBING DOWN THE SOFTWARE AND MAKING THINGS HARDER PLEASE.

    I was just getting riled up about this too.

    The explanation is that Windows 11 is really Windows 10. Windows 10 was really Windows 9, which for some reason they skipped in theior official nomenclature

    Even numbered versions of Windows are just awful. They break everything. Remember Windows 8? What a disaster. I never even had a computer with it because it was so bad. Vista was Windows 6. Not quite as bad but still bad. Windows 11 is Windows 10 in reality and they have bludgeoned the UI again

    Windows 7 was great. Windows 10 (really 9) was also just fine.

    Now this disaster.

    I also find this horribly annoying! And to make it more painful, I also use a mac - which has WORDS in it's right-click file context menu. Same as windows used to.

    My new computer with Windows 11 destroyed a bunch of external drives, so I'm trying to get a refund for it. But my old Windows 10 computer is now working better than ever. Guess it got scared by the new one :) . But I like Windows 10 that now I want nothing more to do with Windows 11. I guess if it was my first computer it would be ok, but I'm too old to change the way I use it. I'll use 10 as long as I can. Just FYI, I'm still using Word 2003 and Quicken 2004, they do everything I need them for.

    That's interesting. Are you resident in UK? I use Quicken which is very, very long in the tooth, but still works extremely well. A brilliant program. I would happily upgrade it but Intuit have not released a UK version for many years.
