Windows 11 File Explorer Right-click Menu was changed to include icons

Who did this and why do they do it (see picture below)? The File Explorer right-click menu has had the options: Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete listed (as words) in this menu FOREVER and now some genius decided that after all these years, Windows users are too dumb to read. The words were replaced with icons. THIS IS SO ANNOYING. THE MUSCLE MEMORY IN MY HANDS IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO RETRAIN AFTER YEARS OF THE MENU BEING THE SAME WAY. Now I have to stop and think about something that I've done instinctively for years. I can get to the ORIGINAL right-click menu by selecting "Show More Options," shown in the photo below, but WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO, THAT'S AN EXTRA STEP? If I am intelligent enough to boot up a computer, then certainly I can read the words: Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename and Delete. I don't need you to create icons to represent those functions. IF IT'S NOT BROKEN THEN DON'T TRY TO FIX IT. STOP DUMBING DOWN THE SOFTWARE AND MAKING THINGS HARDER PLEASE.

I completely agree with your dislike but I think it is for a different reason.

They are not dumbing down the software. Their goal is to shorten the menu and it was considered a fair tradeoff to move those commands (cut, copy, paste) to icons. New users will learn them naturally and existing users will be inconvenienced (many will be very mad like you and me) but eventually everyone will be forced to use icons so that the menu can be shorter.

It's very frustrating and personally I hope MS has another Vista moment, realizes nobody wanted that, and reverses their change.

agreed , juli the person who thought changing the words to icons needs the stupid kicked out of them !

@ t i have a mac sitting on my desk right next too my windows 11 , you need to take the too EE's out of your name and put them back where they belong like this .... See so you can see windows 11 and mac that they do look and with each stupid update they are becoming alot more like one another ! juli i guess the next up date will take away 1 thru o away and we will get one button with a dash on it !

Maybe these guys on Shark Tank didn't have such a crazy idea after all, and got Microsoft to make such a silly change to sell more keyboards: https://copykeyboard.com/
