Windows 11 File Explorer Right-click Menu was changed to include icons

Thanks. That solves the right-click dropdown issue but doesn't turn those scissor, etc. icons at the top right into words. Or it didn't for me, after running that command (interesting that Windows 11 even makes it hard to find the command prompt??) and restarting File Explorer and, when that didn't work, restarting the computer.

That the scissors means cut is easy, but what about the others: one page to the right and above the other is maybe copy? a clipboard with a little page to the right and below is copy to clipboard or take from the clipboard? The A at the left inside a horizontal rectangle with a rolling pin to the right is : time to make apple pie? the incomplete box with a fish tailed arrow is: go swimming? I do understand the trash icon. Someone in this thread says there's no explanation of the icons and you can't cut and paste THEM into a search box, either.

I delayed switching to Windows 11 until a few days ago. I was in blissful ignorance that Microsoft left all of us over 5 years old with an interface that is an insult to our years as their customers.

Yes exactly. It takes some young mind or weak intelect to think cryptic pictograms are a good solution for something like copy/paste in the microsoft windows right click menu...

I just started reading about this after being obligated to switch to windows 11 on my 2 compatible PC (on a fleet of 20+) and hope there is a simple fix.

Yet this is another "feature" that should be opt-in and not opt-out.

Exactly same feelings i have. After 2 decades of being habitual and efficient with Cut... Copy... Paste.... Now i have to memorize those icons. I mean why microsof pay their UI engineers, who simply don't understand the value of convenience.

I was just getting riled up about this too.

The explanation is that Windows 11 is really Windows 10. Windows 10 was really Windows 9, which for some reason they skipped in theior official nomenclature

Even numbered versions of Windows are just awful. They break everything. Remember Windows 8? What a disaster. I never even had a computer with it because it was so bad. Vista was Windows 6. Not quite as bad but still bad. Windows 11 is Windows 10 in reality and they have bludgeoned the UI again

Windows 7 was great. Windows 10 (really 9) was also just fine.

Now this disaster.

Whooops - my fault. I left the braces (curly brackets) off the key. Works great now. The context menu is indeed quite long but it's all text, no icons, so I am MUCH happier. There's a nice explanation of why they did it, it makes sense, what doesn't make sense is using unlabelled icons. I recognized the trash can as Delete, but not the others. I am 82 years old, eyesight (with glasses) good, but memory getting bad. I do NOT need to learn a new way to do something I've been doing for about 30 years.
