Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)

In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks

(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

    The snipping tool was gives a HDR colour correction in the options, toggle it on

    Why isn't it auto default operation I dont know

    I just got a HDR monitor and encountered this problem, but I use a program called "Greenshot" and not the Snip tool. What's odd is that it's been working fine for a few days and then randomly started over exposing. I toggled HDR off/on, but that didn't fix it. What did fix it for me, at least temporarily, was turning on HDR correction in the Snipping Tools options.

    Hello. I was able to find the solution to the problem however it may not solve all apps being overexposed. But in win11 snipping tool you can take a screenshot then open it to edit, then go to snipping tool's settings and there you can find "HDR Screenshot Color Correction". So apparently windows on it's own doesn't automatically adjust the hdr color, but the capturing apps like OBS should have an option to stream and record hdr content.

    Obviously doesn't fix it in all scenarios, but very useful. Dials the obscene overexposure back a bit so you can at least see stuff using snip tool.
