Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)

In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks

(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

    That solution works for snipping, but the issue is bigger than that. Any form of screen capture has this issue including streaming/screen sharing on discord or teams. It's frankly inexcusable that this is still an issue Microsoft.

    I updated my NVIDIA driver and was f@cking around with some of the newer settings and not really sure what I'm doing and could not be asked to research them, a Watercooled 4090 so just go with MAX settings. Since then my colours just didn't look right to me so not sure what to do to fix that and thought let me give this HDR f@ckup another go... I've done the following and I'm actually happy for the moment, never thought I will be because MS could not give a flying f@ck in fixing this and make their customers happy! It's insane...

    I changed the below in Edge because I only used that for day to day and YouTube, etc and this works for me... Put this in the URL bar: edge://flags

    So I had this setting on HDR and I thought all was good but once again, just being disappointed.

    * Some New Tabs will for some stupid reason be much darker

    * YouTube scrolling adds 3+ inch shaded flip up bar at the bottom of the clips and when you stuck in a YouTube rabbit hole, this becomes irritating.

    * I've changed this back to sRGB

    Then in Snipping tool I changed this under the settings: "HDR screenshot colour corrector"

    I've also tested sharing screen and apps in Teams and I have no issues, everything seems to be ok now for me and HDR used in the Desktop is not as painfully bright as it was when I gave up with this **** months ago. I hope this last...

    I would just like to confirm here how horrible Microsofts HDR support still is in 2024 in the most recent version of Windows 11. It's just a bloody shame to see all the complex workarounds here to get something so easy as a screenshot done in HDR, while my macbook pro in 2018 supported HDR flawlessly on both the software and hardware side out of the box.

    But i actually found out a workaround: make your room dark and take a good HDR capable phone with camera like all recent iPhones. Take a picture of your screen and share it to your pc via OneDrive. The most horrible part of this is that I'm actually not joking, it really works great and is much easier than all workarounds and tweaks mentioned above here to do a printscreen.

    Be ashamed of yourself Microsoft!
