Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)

In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks

(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

    Using the HDR Calibration tool makes no difference on mine (using two LG HDR monitors).

    MS please find a way to fix this... It's still broken in the 23H2 Update :(... It's sad that we still can't take a correct screenshot with HDR monitors after all this time.

    I've had HDR turned on for quite a while but only noticed this problem with screenshots (Snipping tool & Edge) since updating Windows 11 23H2. Turning off HDR is not a satisfactory "fix" for this issue nor setting Edge's experimental flag "Force colour profile" to SRGB. Obviously, both of these options will prevent any HDR Youtube content to being played correctly unless I reverse the "fix".

    What I have done (as using the Snipping Tool with Edge is the only things that I care about) was:

    • Open Setting > Display > Graphics,
    • Look for "Snipping Tool" in the App list, if not listed:
      • Under "Custom options for Apps" > "Add an App", choose "Microsoft Store App",
      • Press "Browse" and select "Snipping Tool".
    • In the App list, select "Snipping Tool" and then press "Options" button,
    • Check "Do not use Auto HDR", and
    • Press "Save".

    This seems to be the fix for me, screenshots taken with the Snipping Tool in Edge are no longer washed out with HDR enabled. Don't know what a screenshot of HDR content would look like but for now, my issue is under control.

    I've had Auto-HDR off (so the option isn't there), so I enabled it and then disabled the option for the Snipping Tool specifically, but it didn't seem to make any difference :(...
