Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)

In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks

(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

    For anyone still looking for a solution to this issue:

    1. Go to the HDR section and find this slider, (at the very bottom of the screenshot) and adjust it all the way to the left.

    This will make all screen captures appear as they should, but your overall OS brightness will appear fairly dark.

    1. This step is going to depend on your graphics card, so I can't give you specifics unless you have an nVidia card. Find your graphics card manufacturer settings and adjust your gamma until your brightness is as you like it. nVidia screenshot shown.

    From 1 to 1.5 was enough for me.

    The issue is actually with SDR correction while using HDR.

    How is it possible that Microsoft still hasn't come out with a fix for this yet? We are discovering ambient air temp super conductors, aliens are about to be disclosed, and we still cannot capture screenshots property with HDR mode on...

    Because Microsoft is a monopoly and they are acting like a monopoly; what OS are we going to switch to that actually handles HDR properly? Assuming MacOS does handle it, how am I going to install MacOS on my self-built PC? We're not exactly choosing from pizza places here.

    This solution worked great! It's a shame we're having to hack together solutions to simple problems, but at least we've found a fix. Kudos and thank you very much for this. 1.0 gamma -> 1.5 looks great to me also; I wonder if somehow "gamma" in the Nvidia Control Panel and the SDR adjustment setting in the Windows HDR settings are addressing the same desktop gamma but the SDR settings also adjust the SDR content gamma, because in Windows HDR settings I lower the SDR modifier from 50 to 0, then in Nvidia I up the desktop gamma from 1.0 to 1.5 and then it looks exactly the same as before adjusting the SDR modifier. It seems that when adjusting the Desktop gamma up to 1.5 the HDR/SDR screenshot settings do not adjust with it, but instead remain lower as adjusted in the Windows HDR settings.

    If any of that makes sense...
