Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)

In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks

(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

    I had the same issue that when having HDR mode ON, the Windows 11 Snipping Tool would over-expose the screen shot. Following these given instructions of adjusting "SDR content brightness", by sliding down to say "30", now the snipping tool screenshots have improved drastically to a desired quality. Thank you.

    Not sure if anyone find it out yet but you can fix the snipping tool by going to settings in snipping tool and then tick: HDR screenshot colour corrector :), After that my screenshots are fixed and working fine :)

    I just tried this (enabling the HDR Screenshot Color Corrector setting in the Snipping Tool) and it still doesn't work properly. My results were:

    • Disabled: Most websites (npr.org, cnn.com, etc.) in Brave or Edge clipped and pasted into Paint/etc. are way overblown. Images are over-brightened and text is harder to read. You can see this as soon as the Win+Shift+S hotkey is pressed.
    • Enabled: Website images look better, but are still overblown some. White backgrounds on pages become gray and dark text becomes lighter.

    So neither of these two options seem to work properly... :( What's sad is that with this option disabled, microsoft.com snips/pastes properly, but with it enabled it turns all the white background to gray.

    What version of Windows are you on? Dont have that setting in Snipping Tool

    That really is not good enough, is it?
    MS Photos also has a nasty habit of switching to HDR if the jpg encoding is anything other than absolutely standard - rendering many old images impossible (Photoshop does not have this issue, nor does ACDSee, using the same sources)

    Insider preview versions are betas. Microsoft releases features/fixes to people signed up for the insider program so that they can test whether their features/fixes actually work, before they go in regular Windows versions through Windows Update. From my experience, lead time is approximately 6 months to a year before mainstream consumers get it.
