Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)

In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks

(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

    I think Microsoft should turn off Auto HDR off by default, also they should rename it to something better (like "Upscale SDR to HDR function"). Auto HDR is too easy to make people misunderstand it.

    and snip and sketch should have an option to tone-mapping HDR -> SDR too. (like Xbox screen capture that output to 2 files SDR picture and HDR picture)

    And that’s what Auto-HDR does. That is not what the SDR brightness slider does. One attempts to simulate HDR, as you stated, while the slider merely brightens SDR content.

    The workaround for the Teams issue is already posted. Turn off the Slider gamma correct your desktop with your video card.

    I see. This required some quick testing as I play non-HDR games with HDR and Auto-HDR off. I’ve had bad luck with it.

    So, still set the slider to 0, then in your game which is now too dark, find the brightness settings and adjust the game brightness there.

    Steam screenshots came out fine that way. That’s all I use and can test for…

    I’ve heard X-box game bar has no issues with its screenshots as well.

    If it doesn’t work, you’re doing something wrong.

    The SDR slider is what causes the over exposure. If it’s turned to 0, there’s no way your screenshots or video captures can be over exposed.
