Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

2023, you'd think it wouldn't be an issue would you >.< notice it when gaming and trying to screen capture a certain bit rather then screenshot the whole screen.

For NVIDIA Users: Try to enable NVIDIA Coloroptions in the lower section of Resolution at the Nvidia Controlpanel.

This worked for me and i can watch my loved HDR in Chrome/OperaGX.

HDR Videos will still be overexposed on screenshot as you can see on my screenshot, but the rest is fine !

Yeah, apparently B2B (Business to Business, no ordinary consumers involved) backend Cloud management is Microsoft's money-maker now. SO, while they don't COMPLETELY ignore their OS division, it's no longer a TOP priority. Well, considering their OS marketshare dominance (versus MacOS or Linux), this is an unconscionable decision.

Perhaps they should let the OS division spin-off from Microsoft, and go it's own, profitable way. At least then they would HAVE TO pay attention to end-users, instead of ignoring and allowing GENERATIONAL errors to propagate up into new Windows versions, like HDR compatibility. HDR is not a new technology, and is quite a big deal in gaming, which is one thing Windows does well. If they put some real polish on their OSs, I'd be happy to pay a couple hundred for a new version. But that's not their angle. Now it's "Software as a Service"; i.e. give it a way for FREE, then sell UNBLOCKABLE advertising space. That's why I won't ever upgrade to WIndows 11, from Windows 10 Pro.

I must say, at this point, when Windows 10 is no longer a viable option (Windows 11 is NOT viable for me), I think I will finally switch to Linux for productivity work, and just us whatever Microsoft OS for gaming.

It'll be very low priority & probably something difficult to resolve.

Might need input from different Graphic Card Manufactures too for Driver updates maybe...

All we can all do at this point us post anything findings possible, it'll all help at some point to fix it.

A workaround I have at the moment is using OBS and setting the capture up for HDR capturing.

The colouring is only off ever so slightly if anything in some cases.

If you go to your game capture source, then set RGB10A2 Colour Space to > Rec.2100 (PQ) in the properties of the source.

Then what I've done is setup a hotkey such as ctrl+alt+num1

You need to have OBS open to capture, & on the scene with the gameplay source to capture.

Notes: - You have two hotkeys for this, one for source & one for scene.

• Use either, but if you use GFX/UI already in OBS you need to capture the source.
• Scene capture will include any GFX/UI you have within the Scene.
• In Studio Mode, ensure you've transferred to the live view also.
