Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)

In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks

(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

    I was able to fix OBS by setting the Capture Method to Windows 10 (1903 and up)

    I have only done limited testing just now. So, if HDR gets stuck on (another issue I have with HDR), IDK how it will react to that.

    Still have no idea how to get snipping tool to work though.

    Hi ZB06,

    Sorry for misunderstood.

    You may try the step follow.

    1. Select the Startbutton, then enter settings. Select Settings> System> Display.
    2. If you have multiple displays connected to your PC, select the HDR-capable display near the top of the screen, and then move the Settings app window to the HDR display that you’re adjusting
    3. On the Display settings screen, select Use HDR.
    4. UnderSDR content brightnessor HDR content brightness, drag the slider to get the right balance for brightness between HDR and SDR content.

    THe Problem is in nearly every tool visible.

    If you have HDR enabled the Display shows a wonderful, very balanced output. if i switch off hdr everything gets incredibly dark and like a grey dust overlay.

    If i keep HDR switched on: Snipping- Tool, Microsoft Teams Remote Sessions, LinkedIn Live Sessions and everything that shares your screen becomes extremely overexposed and too much brightness.

    And no: It doesnt has any impact to play with the slider of "Brightness for SDR Content"

    Pls fix this issue as it makes collaboration completely useless and nearly impossible.

    I just think its silly that Microsoft doesn't properly support a technology thats definitely mainstream by now.

    Except that it isn't any software. Geforce experience understands HDR and captures them into a .jxr file just fine. The problem is most applications don't understand HDR and as such will not display them properly, which is my biggest gripe. I can't post them to any providers because they only accept SDR files, likely because all displays can handle that.
