Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)

In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks

(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

    Having the exact same problem. Why doesn't Microsoft fix this?

    Screenshot/snipping tool is a very important tool regarding my work flow, and I'm guessing im not alone in that case. So this should really be a priority if you ask me...

    It's not normal being able to use HDR with snipping tool. That should work from the start. Get your s**** together Microsoft seriously...

    I take back what I said about your fix shifting the issue to my game. Once I recalibrated my in-game HDR settings, after the 1.5 gamma change (and boosting the contrast as well to adjust for the color loss), it does appear that these settings resolve the issue in most situations that I can tell.

    Screenshots work as expected and my game looks fine.

    It still appears that live streaming in Discord doesn't look quite right. It looks much better, and is actually viewable, but it still looks overly bright to viewers.

    I think this could be an expected attempt to convert HDR to SDR though, so this may be the closest we can get.

    Your fix works well, but this shouldn't be needed and isn't going to be a solution for everyone (not sure if AMD Adrenaline software, or Intel's version for their GPUs has this same control).

    It still needs to be addressed directly by Microsoft and I would still consider this to be a temporary fix as opposed to a solution.

    This issue is still a problem a year and a half later. We are not talking about a third party app. We are talking about the built in Microsoft snipping tool that becomes unusable if HDR is on.

    Worked like a charm in Win 11 22H2 (build 22631.1825)

    On a side point, I changed the colour profile in Chrome which seemed to fix the issue when snipping from Chrome (which was my main issue). I've also tested snipping from Word (which obviously a change in Chrome shouldn't impact... ) and that was also fine.

    I went to here: chrome://flags/#force-color-profile

    and changed the colour profile to sRGB (the below screenshot was a snip with HDR on, and as you can see... it's now fine)
