Over-exposure in screenshots and recordings with HDR in Windows 11

The "HDR screenshot color corrector" is a hack job of a fix. It still over exposes everything, it just then adjust the brightness after it has ruined the picture.

You are my savior, was driving me nuts, thanks.

This fixes snipping tool overexposure to anyone else who is desperately googling it.

So is it still unresolved? I've had the same issue for about 2 years now. I'm running W10. I thought it was a GPU problem since when I first googled for the issue I found no one else with the same problem. I was using a GTX 950 and a few months ago I upgraded to a 1050, but the problem persisted.

My pc cannot run W11 and I'm using a single monitor (A 42" TV).

I don't have the problem while gaming, tho, perhaps because the games I play are older and HDR wasn't a thing, I don't know. Neither do I have it while recording (I use Action!) but 95% of screenshots I take, and I take a lot force me to disanble HDR in order to send a decent screen capture. I used print key + paint, then I used to snipping tool and now I'm using Lightshot.

The solution is to type chrome://flags/#force-color-profile in the address bar of Google Chrome, then change the color profile from Default to HDR10 (where available). Although, you may have luck by changing it to sRGB."

Now I've tried that config and didn't work, but I started trying every option and Display P3 D65 is the one that worked in all Chrome, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi browsers. The site doesn't appear to work on Firefox.

So I was still not happy with the settings and the result in my previous post so this is what I ended up doing and its great!!!!#

1. Disable HDR in Windows (MS needs to seriously start spending time and fix their ****!!)
2. Wit the flags I enabled HDR in Edge and Chrome
3. I enable HDR in each game
4. NVIDIA under "Change Resolution" - "Apply the following settings. Output Colour 10bpc, Output Colour Format RGB and Output dynamic range to Full.

So snippet and screen capture works without issues and I get HDR where it matters, don't really need it in Windows and the fact that HDR in Windows has been around for over 2 years and MS can't be asked to actually fix it, I just had enough of their ****!

I make them millions of Pounds by enrolling loads of clients with thousands of users to MS365/Intune/Azure but they can't. So I am working my **** of for them but they can't be asked to fix the software they release for us to use to make them money so they can exists to make software that they can't be asked to fix while we make them **** loads of money and they can't be.... You get my point!

BTW, my colours are great now (I've been tweaking **** for months because sometimes its to bright and other times not bright enough but now its perfect), I can watch HDR content in Edge and Chrome at 4K 60Hz and zero packet loss. I can watch HDR 4K in Netflix app without issues. BTW, I tried t force Dark mode in Edge, don't do it, all YouTube clips then get this weird half screen dark shadow when the navigation bar pops up, just another issue MS will never fix!!!!

SO MY RECOMEDNATIONS IS NOT TO USE HDR IN WINDOWS, THATS WHERE ALL THE ISSUES COME FROM!!!!! Change your apps to HDR not Windows....

yep, 2024 and we still on this. fix this!
